[NO SPOILERS] Evangelion 3.0 Speculation [2]

Continued from here:

So, any thoughts on Angels in 3.0? I think the similarities between Gaghiel and the new Third Angel in 2.0 could have interesting connotations for Angel appearances in the new film (yes, I believe there is a purposeful connection between those two).
They don't think it be like it is, but it do.

That thing I said earlier about Kaworu being the mastermind behind the Angels might have been a joke, but it's gotten me seriously considering that Kaworu might, one way or another, be outright malevolent in NME.

I so don't want that to happen :( which makes it feel even more likely that it will.

You may have a point however it may also be possible that Kaworu plays the perfect villain to make the process of getting rid of him much easier for Shinji.
It's just a thought though.

IIRC someone here called Kaworu the God of the Evaverse. Perhaps he may show that if the Abrahamic God was real, he would be an absolute dick.

*knock on wood* don't even suggest such things! I can't imagine what Shinji would do without Kaworu's support.

Except his mental state was completely deteriorating until Kaworu appeared out of GNR just in time to calm him down during 3I. (I think it was 'deteriorating' I forget how Fyu put it)

EDIT: In-between Kaworu's death and 3I, yes I can see that him doing nothing, granted that was after he already had his support. If he never had that support to begin with I think he would have been better off in that last stretch.

Anyway, let's just hope he's still nice to Shinji. On another note, anyone think Mari is a little malevolent?

I have that feeling, that ShinjixKaworu-time will be splashed over the whole movie, with Kaworu dying at the end. This won't be that interesting...
Interesting will be what Anno intends to do with Mari and Asuka...

I think Mari works outside of words like benevolent and malevolent. She is just outright crazy and will do everything to reach her goal.

I think so, but just going at it straight forward would be a little too...uninteresting. I'd like to think Mari is purely self motivated. She's on her own side. So I think there's some interesting things they can do with that angle. The only problem I have with Mari is I don't see myself getting emotional about her. Like, if she gets ripped to shreds I don't see myself being haunted or overly bothered by it. Just kind of like "Eh, there goes glasses girl."

I'd be interested in seeing how they make her a little more cemented in our hearts before trying something like that. But again, it'd be real hard to avoid the old cliche's and not make it cheesy. WE'LL SEE.
Why do they even want the Loc-Nar? All it does is melt you.

From what she said in the opening scene of 2.0 she seems well-versed at using adults to get what she wants.

I find it hard to get emotionally attached to anyone in rebuild.

I think she definitely knows a lot more about the Eva-verse than she has let on so far.

That would be me. But the whole idea wasn't suggesting he was malevolent, but rather that he had a plan to change the world, whether for better or worse. Given what I've seen, it leans towards the former.

That's like asking Anno if Moyocco is malevolent... :rimshot:
SO THERE I WAS BEING KUBO, WHEN THE EDITORS CAME IN AND WERE LIKE "YOU NEED TO DO MORE THAN PANELS OF WHITE PILLARS AND BLACKGROUNDS!" AND I WAS LIKE "FUCK YOU, I'M KUBO!" SO THEY WERE LIKE "WELL HOW ABOUT SOMEBODY DYING?" AND I WAS LIKE "FUCK YOU, I'M KUBO!" AND I MADE LOTS AND LOTS OF MONEY. I LOVE MY LIFE.

Whether he's malevolent or just yet another no-really-it's-for-the-greater-good asshole makes little difference to me as far as my interpretation of his character. :(

I was thinking that for most of rebuild but once Bardiel hit, then I couldn't help but feel so bad for Asuka (Bardiel including her speech to Misato over the phone).

I imagine that if Kaworu said "I love you" to Shinji, he'd say it in a different setting than the NERV bathhouse. Saying the most important feeling Shinji's ever had said to him would be better absorbed somewhere that doesn't involve him seeing Kaworu's junk.

Don't forget that Kaji said a similar line, but that was regarding Neb's Key.

So far, I'm finding NME-Kaworu to be more malevolent than Mari (She seems batshit insane--in the fun-loving does whatever she wants kind of way), but only time will tell with either of those assumptions.

Regarding the Angels in Rebuild, for sure from the previews shown this summer Arael is definitely in there, shown briefly in a fight with the newly repaired Unit 02.

I said in another threat that I believe the Kaworu in rebuild is a combination of the anime and manga counterparts. In the anime, Kaworu is introduced as someone Shinji can call his friend and understand. In the manga, however, Kaworu is shown to have an innocent, yet callous, view of life, which causes Shinji to dislike or even loathe him in the beginning. He strangled a kitten to death since, by his reasoning, it would've died anyway from starvation.

From the new trailer, I think Kaworu starts off as the kinda guy Shinji befriends and gets along with, until Kaworu starts showing his callous take on life and letting people die, causing Shinji to get angry and reject him.

I think the Japanese aren't as bothered by full frontal male nudity as Westerners are.
