I thought that too for some time, but Square has officialy said in their Ultimania Guide that Ultimecia is not Rinoa. But if she would have been, it would have made a lot of sense.

No, she's not Rinoa! Truth is Square screwed up with the time compression, but i don't see how Rinoa would fight herself in the end. Past, present, future are all together in the end, and a person cannot exist in two versions.
Rinoa is Rinoa, Ultimecia is Ultimecia.
Rinoa is Rinoa, Ultimecia is Ultimecia.

If we take parallel universes for truth, it's possible. Check out my link, seriously, all of it. The guy has put some thought into it.

Serious thought or not, it doesn't matter. If square (the creator of the game and story) says it is not Rinoa then it is not Rinoa.
This is just like the Misato shot Kaji rumor, people just won't let it die even though they have been told they were wrong by the people who created the story in the first place.

Sad isn't it? I thought fan-theories revolved around the series and not vice-versa.

I greatly enjoyed FF7 as it was the first RPG I played. Yeah, there are some faults with it, but I still like it.
Shipping-wise (oh noes!) I like Tifa/Cloud though Aeris/Cloud is okay, too.
And yes I enjoyed Advent Children, though Sony took too freaking long to bring it over here!! (And what the frig was with subbing and dubbing Caith Sith's lines so nobody could understand what was being said?!)

Yeah, I know. But they didn't say anything about the other theory, so I'll believe that until somebody comes up with a better explanation.

It is, in general, a fantastic set of games. I used to have more to say about the series, but I’ve somewhat worn myself out over the years.
I find it hard to place myself in either the ‘old school’ or ‘new school’ category. I’m quite a fan of III, IV and VI but am also quite fond of Tactics, IX and X. I think I would lean more towards new school, since I like VII, VIII and XII far more then I like I, II and V.

Haven't played any past VII, don't have much time for long RPGs anymore, but it's a superb series, no doubt. VII and VI are certainly two of the all time great games ever.
RE Throne: I'd think FF has 3 schools:
Old school - FFI-VI
Middle School - FFVII-IX
New School - FFX-XII
NES/SNES, PS, PS2 respectively. Of course there's also those odd, out of town schools: FF Tactics, FFX-2, etc.

I absolutely loved Final Fantasy 7, when I first played it in 2000. I still do like it, but you do have to admit most of that game's fanbois are dumbasses. Looking back, I find that there are so much shit I disliked. Espcially Sephiroth, he's a weak-ass villian, but with a overcompensation complex as bad as Cloud. Speaking of which, who the fuck decided that a giant sword was a pratical weapon? And FF7 DOES get rather cheapened buy that retarded Advent Children movie. And Dirge of Cerebus DILDOMASTER 8000 whatever the hell they are up to now.
Now, I loved FF8. Granted, it is a really hard game to play the first time through it. That's why you read the manual and use the tutorials. And refine cards into magic. 8) I liked Squall a hell of a lot more than Cloud, espcially as a chracter. Plus Gunblade>Stupid ass Buster Sword. And Squalls final limit is far and away better than Clouds. The only real problem I find with FF8 is the fact that the Squall/Rinoa romance advances too quickly. Square easily had more time for this in the third disk where Squall could ask his feelings about what he really wanted.
And, i'm sorry, but the normal battlemusic does suck. No question about it. I really wish they used ther Laguna battle music instead. Oh, Yeah, Laguna was quite a great chracter. I liked the hell out of him and his two sidekicks. Plus Lagunas limit break was pretty funny, the first time you see it.

I tried playing FF VI, VII, and VIII but fell asleep during all three. I ended up just loading one of my roommate's games and bred chocobo or played that triad card game. Although I really liked the way VII used materia. It was a really cool way of managing powers and upgrades and allowed you to do some pretty ridiculous things, like pairing Ultima with MP Absorb. The turn off for me is all the talking and long cut scenes. Story driven RPGs are just not my kind of game.

Best thing in FFVII is Tifa and her limit! And i'm in the list of Aeris-haters, because she was annoying and screwed in her own way my Tifa/Cloud. :x
Though it was a little sad when she dies.

Best thing in FFVIII is Renzokuken and Zell's lines! :P
And the romance story seems kinda rushed, but it's still cool. It's the main theme of FFVIII anyway. Better than Yuna/Tidus.
p.s i'm still searching for the Kiros Card dammit!

I take it Diablo is more your cup of tea, then?
A pretty weak and bland series of roleplaying games that got ahead with the first chapter for the PSX, but have since put all their efforts into convincing the public it just was a fluke.
Apart from the graphics and pompousness of it all, FF has nothing that other RPG's don't have. That's not saying they're all bad, only that stripped down it's all the same and I'd rather be playing Suikoden.

You cannot deny that Final Fantasy really made RPG's popular on the console systems. (The revivial of PC RPGs belongs mainly to Diablo.)
I'm not saying that FF is the best series evar, I am merly stating your better RPGs probley would not exist if FF hadn't made console RPG's popular in the first place.

A little closer, though it's still story driven, just not as much as games that are literally "RPG on Rails with stats and experience to make you feel as if you're really role playing". Same thing with the Morrowind, Neverwinter Nights, etc. When I think of RPG, I think of D&D or Angband/Omega/Rogue/Nethack/MUDS, where there's really no story at all except what you make up. To a lesser extent, I'd consider most MMORPGs actually role playing, except to really advance, you pretty much can't do any real roleplaying at all.
FF, Zelda, all those new Bioware games, and other games that give you stats and experience is only RPG in the sense that you're kinda building up a character, but it's solely for the sake of getting to the next plot point in the story (the next stop along the immutable "rail"). The building up of the character is completely secondary in the game, you can probably take all that away and still have a fun game.
I'm not saying that games like these are inherently bad because they're not really RPGs, nor am I saying that I don't like games like this. I quite enjoyed the Zelda games and the KotOR games. It's just FF6-7 had too much story. I spent most of my time clicking through all the dialogue because I wanted to get on with it, then later not knowing where I was supposed to go because I didn't spend 20 minutes reading all the talking everyone at some house somewhere did, then I'll get to a long cutscene and fall asleep. It kinda reminds me of the first time I played Halo and was completely in awe that someone would put a 10 minute long cutscene in a FIRST PERSON SHOOTER. I don't give a shit about who I'm supposed to be or who these things I'm killing are, I just want to get on with the killing. FF wasn't that bad but you couldn't skip the cutscenes.
