Seeing Evangelion: Q/3.0 in Japan

Thought it may be good to get some discussion going amongst any users who may be seeing the movie when it drops in Japan this November. I'll actually be over there 19-26 November and going to take the opportunity to see it - Even though I won't understand a single bit of it because my Japanese sucks, haha.

Here's the list of cinemas screening Q/3.0:
http://ticket.evangelion.co.jp/cinemalist.html#tokyo

The Google page translated version:
http://goo.gl/MyAHQ

I might hit up the Toho complex in Kinshichō, as I always usually stay in Asakusabashi whenever I'm in Tokyo (Nice and close to Akiba). Don't know exactly which day/night I'll go yet but once I know, I'll book my ticket online.

So... Is anyone else doing this perchance? Come on, out of the woodwork with you!

A friend of a friend is going to be seeing it when it comes out in Japan. Other than that, I've been praying for word of a magical theater here in the States that would screen Q with subtitles with only a few days' delay on the Japanese release. Would be nice, right? I've been jokingly asking my friend when we're going to be booking our tickets to Japan ever since we saw 1.0 and 2.0 last summer.

I'm already making reservations, but I'm not sure about understanding it, spoken Japanese is always easier in real life.
SO THERE I WAS BEING KUBO, WHEN THE EDITORS CAME IN AND WERE LIKE "YOU NEED TO DO MORE THAN PANELS OF WHITE PILLARS AND BLACKGROUNDS!" AND I WAS LIKE "FUCK YOU, I'M KUBO!" SO THEY WERE LIKE "WELL HOW ABOUT SOMEBODY DYING?" AND I WAS LIKE "FUCK YOU, I'M KUBO!" AND I MADE LOTS AND LOTS OF MONEY. I LOVE MY LIFE.

I don't think I will be able to swing something like that. I do hope I will be able to for FINAL though.

I don't care who goes, but I do hope that the person which will be going is going to record it and put it online for everyone to see. I am saying this without a qualm. I would love to pay for it, but if they let us wait for another year just because we are in the west, I just need to pirate it.

Yeah, but this thread is about those between us gaijin who are going to Japan to see the movie, so I thought that he was referring to "us" (westerners).
So let’s make a wish.

In the meanwhile, I'll use "us" to refer to everyone unable to go to Japan see that movie.

We're going to be real busy here, sharpening our tools, preparing the torture room, and we'll be ready to "greet" you once you're back, "asking" you how it was, and what happens with Asuka. And everyone else too, but mostly Asuka.

Evangelion 1.0 Theater Release: September 1, 2007
Evangelion 1.01 DVD Release: April 25, 2008

Evangelion 2.0 Theater Release: June 27, 2009
Evangelion 2.22 DVD/BR Release: May 26, 2010

Evangelion 3.0 Theater Release: November 17, 2012

If the trend continues with 3.0, we'll have to wait about 8-11 months before it's released to home media in Japan, which means it'll be about a year before decent quality fansubs start popping up. So unless they plan on staying off of the internet for a year to avoid spoilers, anyone outside of Japan will have to watch a camrip....

EDIT: However, since FINAL is supposed to come out in 2013, maybe they'll anticipate the home media release of 3.0 by a few months compared to the other two! ...Or maybe I'm expecting to much of Director Anno.

I wanted to use "them" but it could have looked like I was referring to the Japanese...

Even then, it will be suite some time before it gets licensed here in the U.S., so it will be a while before it comes out on the big screen here, and then get a DVD/BD release here.

That's where piracy becomes handy; actually here in Europe we skip the cinematographic release, so it should be released between 3/6 months, it depends on the country, after the Japanese release, which still means almost 18 months after the Japanese theatre release, unfortunately.

On top of being classy as hell. Who doesn't love eyepatch, knives and "YAAAARRR"? I know I do.

18 months after the Japanese theatre release, unfortunately.

Oh god dammit. I knew that Evangelion was all about patience, but I'd better adop a hobby before the whole thing is translated.

That apart, is there any rule against spoilers on this forum, or should I avoid coming here once the movie is out?[/quote]

If I remember correctly there was a rule against spoilers until some time after the American release of Ha, probably a similar rule will be reinstated again.

Let's hope that dear director Anno decides that this is a good idea. I don't want to have to have 3.0 come out on Blu-Ray and only get it in time for FINAL.

Not that I'm not going to see a good fansub first, anyway.

I don't know anything about getting camrips (I never saw the first two movies until I bought the US release) so I will be screwed until the home video release. I just hope that when 3.0 is released on Blu-ray, there will be a simlutanious release a la Gundam Unicorn.

Staying on board the optimism train, since 1.0/2.0 both hit home video in May/April, maybe that's the time of the year they like to release this stuff. If so, perhaps the release schedule looks something like:

3.0 DVD/BD: April/May 2013
4.0 Theatrical: Fall 2013
4.0 DVD/BD: April/May 2014
