There are a lot of great characters in Eva. Every single character I would say is a constantly, changing round charcter...expect her. What in the hell is reason people like so goddamn much.

Idono, but she's mysterious. Maybe that's attractive to some people?

- Rei isn't a borderline alcoholic.

- Rei isn't a self-loathing wimp.

- Rei isn't an arrogant self-centered bitch.

- Rei isn't a backstabbing double agent.

- Rei isn't a scheming bastard.

- Rei isn't an airheaded jock.

- Rei isn't an enemy in disguise.

I for one am not a big fan of Rei. Of the principle characters, I think she is the most one sided and uninteresting. I dislike Rei's popularity sometimes. I dislike that she is the ultimate submissive female, and that plays to the fantasies that some pathetic males have.

I'm more of an Asuka fan myself.

True, but it's nice to have at least one character who's always quiet and inoffensive.

I wish there were more tomboys, though.

she is pretty much the poster child for all the --silent, obedient, refined, intelligent, doesnt speak unless spoken to, perfection, girls in anime

Asuka on the other hand -- bitch...

i cant remember where...but somewhere it was said that Rei was meant to represent a fantasy...
(when you fantasize...the fantasy does whatever you want...and doesnt ever question you or say no)

While Asuka is meant to represent real girls...

errr..something like that

I dunno, but Rei just seems... boring is the first word that pops into mind.

Now, Misato's the one that needs a bigger fanbase.

My take on Rei is that she is much more adult in her behaviour than the other two Children.

Rei has blue hair and red eyes.

This makes her popular.

I found Rei down right creepy in #05. She only got creepier later in the series.

Actually I think Rei is one of the most horrible characters rather than one of the cutest. Remember her large circular eyes with exceptionally large pupil and red iris? And the pale skin as white as ghost?

Honestly I'd say Asuka is more intriguing.

Word up. I find Asuka extremely sympathic (sp?), but Rei's just too boring. I read somewhere recently that Rei supposedly disappears for a long part of the series. I never noticed =P

I like her 'cause she's cute. But I don't like the walking comatose thing she dose all the time.

well i personally dont know ehy people like Rei so much, Kaworu and Touji are soooo much better. But my one friend says that a lot of anime/Evangelion fans think that theyre emo and some people think Rei is emo so they like Rei b/c she is like them. Doesnt make much sence to me.
I don't care for Eva-elitists. I don't know everything, and neither do you.

"Is that why they call you EvangelionFreak?" DatDude
"I will never understand you, Evangelionfreak. Never ever." Faußtin
"-Shinji is all alone, but Kaworu walks up to him and says, "So it's only us now.". End. YOU[girls]WISH. I'm looking at you, Evangelionfreak."Rahaquiel-2DIS
"Well, that still leaves Evangelionfreak straighter to me. Phew." Reichu

They're fapboys. I'm not saying Asuka's not hot, they're pretty equal in that department. But personality goes a further way. I for one can relate to her relationship to Shinji pretty heavily. Might as well elaborate;

Asuka is weak, and knows Shinji is too. But she sees herself as being less weak than him, and therefore tries to push him along to make him more like her, and when it doesn't work, she gets pissed at everything. At least that's something I realised about myself after seeing her and Shinji in action.

Rei may have her moments, but the better part of the series, she wastes it away with idle rhetoric like "Who am I?"

Like her or not; Asuka brings a lot more to the table than that.

Yeah, while typing this I realise they're both pretty essentil to make Eva what it is. I'll stop bashing Rei now, as I've gone about as far as I can in describing why Asuka is superior =) Later!

That's not to say that all Rei fans are fapboys, now...

Either way, I personally liked Rei more then Asuka. She was more interesting to me.
He was warrior and mystic, ogre and saint, the fox and the innocent, chivalrous, ruthless, less than a god, more than a man. There is no measuring Muad'Dib's motives by ordinary standards. In the moment of his triumph, he saw the death prepared for him, yet he accepted the treachery. Can you say he did this out of a sense of justice? Whose justice, then? Remember, we speak now of the Muad'Dib who ordered battle drums made from his enemies' skins, the Muad'Dib who denied the conventions of his ducal past with a wave of the hand, saying merely: "I am the Kwisatz Haderach. That is reason enough."
