Yeah, I'm really wondering how this thing compares to the Soul of Chogokin figures. The latter are pretty damn cool (and, more importantly, from NGE), and if the RAH won't last long there's no contest in my mind.

Wait, what?

The promo version and the retail version were radically different. Different hair, different texture to the suit, the whole bit. It was enough to keep me from buying what I was sure would've been a no-brainer.

And even then in about a year it'll prob fall apart into dust like my Asuka RAH did. For 17k yen no thanks.

Yeah rubber is worrisome on any of these figures(not even Hot Toys can avoid this problem unfortunately.) Still my other RAHs are doing okay(my Asuka and Rei currently acting as stands for my RD Evas), so I feel I can take the chance on this. Still remember this is not gonna be exactly the same as their Human RAHs, so general judgement shouldn't be so quick just yet on these RAH Neos.

Though I'm gonna have to admit I'm planning to make a custom display stand to match either the Holding Cages or Launch Rails; so ultimately I don't really have a problem keeping it in a neutral pose for most of the time.

That said 17k Yen is indeed quite a bit a funds to cough up, roughly around $225 CAD after conversion before shipping is added in; so people should keep that in mind when considering it.

If your talking about the SOC Tamashii SPEC figures, than this RAH Neo won't come close. The RAH Neo could be sturdy enough to posed very frequently, but it is just designed as a highly articulated statue/doll really; not an action figure oriented collectable like the SPECs.

I'd have to to say that it can be a hit or a miss most of the time with Medicom figures, I myself feel that they're okay as I haven't had any problems with my RAH 2.22 plug suit Asuka and Rei. Unable to comment on the missing three since I still haven't gotten a Shinji for myself, and my Mari and Kaworu are still at my parent's since I can't fit them at my place. Though I can't say Bagheera's comment is accurate, since he seems to be talking about the discontinued and replaced RAH TV plug suit Asuka.

mhmm. Yeah, the RD evas are pretty brill/definitive. But this medicom one has size advantage and would go nicely with 1/6 max factory Asuka I have coming in.

But yeah, I can imagine nothing will come close to the articulation/ruggedness of XS-01R models and the like.

(I really like the look of the 400% syncro one too)

Isn't that the only plug suit Asuka from NGE? My understanding was that the other one was Shikinami.

What I was getting at is that the RAH Plug Suit Soryu had a promo/display figure that showed up at conventions and such was not the same as the one that was ultimately mass produced and sold. There are pictures comparing the two in the RAH Eva Figures thread. My own confusion on the topic begins here. The discussion that follows clarifies my point above.

Sorry made the comment as the RAH you mentioned doesn't really reflect reliability of the Eva pilot RAHs out as of now. Your right though that it is the only NGE plug suit Asuka released, the replacement I was referring to was the Shikinami just. Though I'll have to stop discussing the RAH pilot figures here and move on to the RAH thread you linked, as well I do know some more stuff about the NGE RAHs though you might wanna brace yourself for some bad news...

View Original PostBagheera wrote:Does anyone know anything more about these prototypes? Do they ever show up on the secondary market (Ebay, Amazon Marketplace, etc)? Are they even available anywhere in Japan? I'd give a lot to get one of those.

Also, any idea as to why it changed so drastically from prototype to production version?

Unfortunately the prototypes shown in certain toy shows will most likely not show up on sale I'll have to inform you, and I don't think you'd want them really after you read this.

First for the NGE/TV series RAH figures, Medicom was able to do five seperate figures as far as I and my uncle know(had to ask him for help, as he's been collecting the Kamen Rider RAHs/PBM!s for a while; as well the one that introduced the figures to me) before Medicom cancelled the line right before a School Unifom Ver. Shinji. Rei got a Plug Suit Ver, Bandaged Ver.(her appearance from the first episode), and a School Uniform Ver. and Asuka got a Plug Suit Ver., and Yellow Sundress Ver.(saw this one myself at Wonderfest '07 or '08, most likely the former during a trip). The School Uniform Rei and Yellow Sundress Asuka were exclusives, though Medicom supposedly had them available at different events and let the latter one show up briefly for regular sale at shops(don't think it was made available to online shops.)

Next for the prototypes my uncle told me that considering the time frame of when they were first previewed(those pics might be of figures from shows back in '05 he thinks), that the prototypes were possibly unarticulated resin(doesn't know what material exactly was used for the prototypes' inner skeleton) mock-ups, or a wire fame with rubber body. Something Medicom frequently did when previewing upcoming releases(think of those really rough looking prototypes for Bandai's model kits, or Max Factory's Figmas/Nendoroids), with suits made just for the figure. Unfortunately we have no idea what happened to the NGE prototypes, but he told me that the prototypes for Kamen Riders and other licenses would be displayed at a shop Medicom owned in Shibuya(is still there technically, but is used mostly for Medicom's other products) in between toy shows or events for a length of time; and eventually scrapped.

Think they were just rushed to be honest, my uncle remarked that at the time these were the fastest from announcement-to-release figures that had come out at the time at eight or nine months. Release time came(released seperately with a few month between the characters) and they were bashed badly for inaccuracies('levitating' shoulder guards, suit made of a fabric material instead of a pleather, pvc/vinyl torso covers that could be stained by suit) with the suits concerning how Medicom made them(to collectors of the RAH line the Japanese base I should say, the focus is more on the suits than the articulation apparently).

Here's what I know, and hopefully it answered some questions for you.

I have to say shaneva, THANK YOU for handing out this link. I managed to get RD Unit 00 for $40 by shopping there. Also picked up a second RD Unit 02 for $20 to take with me when I go back to college.

Just got RD Unit-00 in today, still looks like an angry construction worker. I probably wouldn't have bothered getting it if it wasn't for the price I got it.

Starting to type up the review for Unit-00, hopefully on my day off I can get a couple of reviews worth of photos taken. So look forward to the review of her either this weekend or the middle of next week.

All I gotta say about her right now is...ooo Gatling gun...big missile...

Just curious Sarge133,
how much exactly did you get it for if you don't mind sharing?

I know the price for this is ridiculous just cos of some extra rocket/bomb & stuff... that's why I am holding off till this day...

Umm...4000 yen. Which would be...$50.44 I think. Then shipping ontop of that. In total it ended up being $67.82 with EMS shipping.

Trust me, if I never found it for that price, I would have never got it. Over $100 or whatever it's going for now is just ridiculous and highway robbery.

If your looking to pick one up? DO NOT pay over $100 for it. It's not worth that kind of hard earned money.

Now that IS an awesome deal!!! Yes, was suppose to get one but the prices were around $100 & above... I know Robot Spirits are good in quality- but you're right.. over $100 is not worth it at all.....

Go to Mandarake and keep an eye out for more Unit 00s. They pop up from time to time on the cheap. Just be patient and you'll get a good deal.

I do have a question for those who know a lot about the Evangelion SPEC series. Are there different versions of XS-08 Unit 2? I'm looking to track one down so I can say I have a SPEC figure, and Unit 2 is always my go-to Eva for new lines.

Also got an EvaEvo 02 on the way. So I can do a direct Revoltech vs Robot Damashii comparision from my point of view. I'm going to be as fair and unbiased as I can be. I have high hopes for EvaEvo 02, Revoltech has always been slightly...off...in my eyes.

Edit: MP Eva's review is going to be going up tonight! Photos are taken, final checks are going over right now before I edit the two together, code it onto my website and post it.
