F/Z 17. Another strong episode. Whatever Gil thinks about him, I always found Tokiomi to be one of the most interesting characters, with far more tragedy potential than, say, Kiritsugu. Nice to see they didn't shove his big moment off into the corner, then. The way scenes are structured in this ep is actually really great, particularly how Gil moves. I was kind of hoping he'd materialize behind Kirei with arms around his neck or something. Ah well.

Watched Fate Zero S2 episode 4. Now thiswas a good episode! Oh what bliss seeing dear old daddy get what he so richly deserved, and with his own gift too! The presence of the will was just the cherry on top. Delicious. :liplick:

Gundam AGE episode 29

Be Old Snake Flito
Have another boring birthday
Suddenly disgusting Vegan attack out of the nowhere
Time to dust off the googles and use my grandchild I personally trained as a child soldier
Happy fucking birthday to me!

Good start into the last generation. Shocking that the Big Ring has been taken out so lightly after it held itself for so long. Never was a friend of the whole docking thing in Gundam but I liked how they used smoke bombs to obstruct the views this time. Makes the thing a bit more believable.

New opening is cool but like the others before way too revealing.

I guess Ranka's birthday got in the way of a massive splurge about that.

They end up at the nationals in Tokyo by the end of episode 3, and are in tournament mode by 4, with the Achiga school meeting Saki.

I'm right here in my room browsin' the net. What am I supposed to be looking at?

Anyway, I'm watching that... eventually (I haven't even caught up on Apollon and Lupin III because of focusing so fully on completing FSN last week). Macross is Macross but as for AKB0048 I'm waiting for the show with horrid premonitions.

I'm just hoping that it'll be some sort of unholy spawn of satan, a combination of Idolmaster and Macross 7 basically (which is what trailers etc. make me think of) which would make it ridiculously entertaining at least...

in any case it's surprisingly risky production, given the at least seemingly high level of antipathy AKB48 "enjoys" among noisy anime otaku. Looking at 2ch the responses are carefully positive, better than expected, "they've made too much effort for something like this", "I wasn't going to watch because of AKB but it's pretty ok", "it's only one episode but it doesn't seem to be a bad" and the like. So it's probably pretty nice show but AKB connection isn't necessarily purely good thing

Hell, even for me AKB48 connection is something of a minor turn off so it's not like I don't understand the hesitation. But the staff is good so it'll hopefully be at least entertainingly bad (like mix of IM and M7 would be)

 You've done a 180 right there, like

This sounds like some sort of unholy spawn of random scifi setting, Macross 7's over the top music/ORE NO UTA KIKEEE ridiculosity and slice of life moe moe with a supercute uguu idol unit with crappy pop music and crazy hair colours replacing Basara and his crappy buttrock aka making 7 elements infinitely better straight into realm of cheesy superdimensional awesome. Fwsagsagadsgdsgdsgsdfgsddsfhfdhdf just when I thought the project couldn't shock me with a tweeests anymore I get this synopsis

hot damn, I'm burning for this

Yep, there's one that's a trollsub. There will be those who like their idols on 2D, and those wota who want theirs in flesh-and-blood 3D.

OBTW, SDFM set completed, so tonight's the time to watch. :D

The first episode of AKB0048 was rather good. Kawamori really is a great director. The references to current AKB48 were handled surprisingly "subtly" so that the show does stand on its own. Those in-jokes offered a couple of good chuckles, though - like Takamina's "weapon" being a deadly ribbon.
"I'd really like to have as much money as you have, Oz" - robersora
"No you wouldn't. Oz's secret is he goes without food to buy that stuff. He hasn't eaten in years." - Brikhaus

"Often I get the feeling that deep down, your little girl is struggling with your embrace of filmfaggotry and your loldeep fixations, and the conflict that arises from such a contradiction is embodied pretty well in Kureha's character. But obviously it's not any sort of internal conflict that makes the analogy work. It's the pigtails." - Merridian
"Oh, Oz, I fear I'm losing my filmfag to the depths of Japanese pop. If only there were more films with Japanese girls in glow-in-the-dark costumes you'd be the David Bordwell of that genre." - Jimbo
"Oz, I think we need to stage an intervention and force you to watch some movies that aren't made in Japan." - Trajan

What is this AK48 stuff? Is this going to be one of those new anime everyone loves and I am left out on seeing so I end up looking like an uncultured slow poke that doesn't get the many references of it that will be made for a long time?

Anyway, I am now two thirds through Fighbird at ep 32. Two words: GREAT FIGHBIRD!

It's official, I'm giving this series a perfect score unless they screw up the ending, I might even rank it over NGE (might).

From what I’ve read about it has something to do with pop music being banned and idols are hunted down or something like that

As I said before, all of the above carry some truth in itself. I do not see them as sarcastic at all, but actually a valid angle of seeing the anime (and its light novel).

View Original PostXard wrote: To say I'm disappointed with Nisemonogatari doesn't quite capture the discontent and empty feeling this installment in Monogatari series ended up giving

To say I'm thoroughly happy with Nisemonogatari doesn't quite capture the solid and fulfilled feeling this installment in Monogatari series ended up giving  And I don't really feel the stuff to be fap material - like a piece of nude sculpture, do I appreciate it as a piece of art? Or just a piece of object for fapping? Both may exist in the people's reaction, and may exist in the creator's intention as well, but nowadays I tend to look at it from an arts angle. I find the material to be tintillating but I don't really see it fappable. Perhaps I should read some Nise doujin first...

View Original PostXard wrote: if yaraon slices of episode reactions I followed through the season are indication of anything Japanese audience too seems somewhat underwhelmed and disappointed with it (esp. those unfamiliar with novels and particularly with the ending and content not directly related to the painfully fitting nickname "pornomonogatari"). Which won't stop it from selling well thanks to large fanbase

As I said before, people in 2ch (from where the comments of yaraon were drawn) never seem to even understand why Bake sold so well. Not at that time, and so even now. So to them Nise being able to sell greatly is even more mystifying. It just goes to show that how the -monogatari phenonmenon is not restricted to anime otakus. In fact I would argue that this is one anime that seems to be pandering to otakus but in fact draws its appeal from a much wider base. And I think I would like to add that there are many female buyers of the light novels and anime too -- are they also attracted only by its being "pornomonogatari"???

View Original PostXard wrote: The series's problems and failures go straight back to source material and Shinbo's stubborn "loyalty" to it: thus the failures of the novel (going by synopsis/reviews by people who've read the originals in Japanese I've seen on net) seem to be identical with the ones of anime adaptation.

This I should say its the series's major achievement and success.

In fact I would say that it is part and parcel with the light novel. Both have to be seen as one package. The multiplier effect of having the anime on top of the light novel is powerful and the faitfulness of Shinbo's directing is a major factor in the success of Bake and even more so, Nise. Let's face it, Nise may have come as a shock to the original Bake fans (of the novel) when it came out, but since then it is known as the "fan disk" of the Bake series (a word used in the game world to mean extension of the official story and characters but with a twist to the story styel and character behavior) and so Shinbo treated it as such, which is what the novel is all about anyway (though as IO said, there are indeed development of the stories and new discoveries to be found). One thing I would agree though is that it is arguable if pacing can be done better.

View Original PostXard wrote: You really can tell Nisemonogatari was written for drawer, something he never ment to publish as "official" Monogatari title but got dragged into doing that probably for money.

Of course he did it for the money, but I am not sure he got "dragged into doing that". From the interview I read he expressed a lot of fun and enthusiasm when he started Nise, and it kept him going for quite a number of titles. The more recent titles (the so-called "2nd season") may be more related to requests from outside.

View Original PostXard wrote: Good example of bad execution would be how Senjougihara's haircut (HORRENDOUS when we finally get to see it during the very final moments) was handled: something that was ment to symbolize her "moving on" from her past was never shown or elaborated upon despite the crucial importance for her character arc. It was jus stuck there in the end which has confused and enraged viewers unfamiliar with novel spoilers more than anything else. Bad move.

Actually this is another bit that is questionable - as a fan of the original novel I would rather see more about how Araragi viewed and analysed Sejougahara's haircut. But I don't think the way it was presented in the anime would confuse viewers unfamiliar with novel though, as even in the novel Senjougahara never got to explain why she cut her hair.

View Original PostXard wrote:Oh, and the whole Koyomi-Gahara-Hanekawa dynamic that was introduced and dangled in front of viewers early on? Pretty much completely forgotten for time being without any clear indications it's just foreshadowing developments in further installments (I don't know if that's the case but I hope so).

Did not expect much to be revealed. In fact the novel does not really shed much light either. We just know that Hanekawa knows what she's got to know and it is good enough to get Gahara to release Koyomi. I don't have much problem with that though.

View Original PostXard wrote: I have hard time genuinely getting into characters when the show is too busy almost constantly trying to bait my dick by adding sex appeal to all the underage chicks (SHAAAFT)

You are baited? I guess many fans handle the material more sensibly than you do...

View Original PostXard wrote: Conclusion: Platinum Disappointed

6/10

Score holds no meaning to me, but my conclusion is Platinum Satisfied

And comparison to ToLoveRu Darkness is, while understandable, at the end misses the point. TD is not really pretending anything but I would say that Nise wraps it in several layers of concepts, ideas and thinking that do not have to do with fan-service or fetish, and so while fan-service and fetish are a major part of the anime, it is not the only thing to go, unlike TD.

Well, but coming from a guy whose most favorite show in the last season is, surprise, NOT Nisemonogatari but Highschool DxD, perhaps people may think that "oh just another fan-service moefag liking his fan-service anime", but I also want to point to anybody who has not seen HDD to give it a chance. I came into it expecting just series of fan service snapshots, but ended up cheering for the guy as he grew up, made hard decison and fought hard to protect things he really cared. In a way, it is actually the MOST SHONEN show of the last season. I am pleased to see that this anime is among the top THREE BESTSELLING anime of the last season, a status that just a pure fan-service anime could not dream of achieving. Again here many in 2ch expressed their disbelief and even disgust, but who said the so-called otaku posters in 2ch really know everything about anime?
I never thought I would come back to Evangelion after EoE,
But I discovered Re-Take (or it found me?) and

Talking and training or something, at least the next episode has unmanned drones in a hijacked train or something. I'm starting to see why Nanoha fans don't like this series.

And you know what? If it is going to end up like the other magical girl junk I've seen I'm doing a special 3-part TDSA Takes of X.
