[DOUJINSHI] Re-Take

Ok, let's try this.

Strictly speaking; it is porn. Even if the last issue had no more than two frames of sex in it.

And where else can I get some thoughts on it but at my Evaboard?

So I finally got to Re-Take 4 today, and I am thoroughly impressed. Even if it's not as well-planned as the original series, it's fukken marvelous for a fan-made doujinshi. It kept playing tricks on my all the time, and even if the ending made it so entirely different from the original work, that was just the beauty of it, because I cannot see this happening in the upcoming official projects. Not quite Eva, but under these circumstances, it's more than alright. As a fanmade kind of spoof, 'twas just gorgeous.

Any thoughts before this is eradicated for corrupting the youth?

Seriously, this is much more worthy of our attention than any awful parody/outtake-youtube crap.

I want to argue the porn thing. I'm getting closer and closer to believing they stuck the graphic sex in there as a way to make it sell, similar to how I feel about the sex scenes in Mezzo. But unline Mezzo, they managed to integrate the sex scenes into the story in what is ussually a meaningful way. Pages 19-24 of volume 3 is in my opinion a good example of this

and btw, my icon is page 32 of the same volume. :D

I thought the rule was no posting where to find more questionable materials, not no talking about it.

That is correct.

Personally, I felt that Re-take had the sex scenes in the same way that it became an obligatory part of SF novels during the 70s and 80s : the everyone's doing it herd mentality that ends up requiring it even when not needed. That is something that I am glad that SF has gotten over in the main, now that the 'net allows you to find smut filtered to your own idiosyncratic set of kinks.

That aside, writing and art were at least as good as Sadamoto - and with a much better production rate. And their mischaracterisation of Asuka wasn't quite as bad as his. I did get some wry amusement that even those hardcore S/A fans had to arrange for Asuka to be brain-damaged before she could be happily married to Shinji, though.

I thought it was a great doujinshi, I thought the sex scenes were a bit unnescessary but they wern't the focus so it wasn't as bad. Probably one of the best fan made things i've seen.

Oh good =) I just assumed, because noone had spoken up about it earlier, even now that the conclusion is out.

Anyone know who that kid at the very end was? Was that just one of those willing to live, happening upon the two?

You are free to discuss provided it is not in explicit sexual detail, but please don't tell people where to get it.

So why, if I may ask, does Mr. Tines get away with posting so many links to that board?

(M)any links? Not according to the search function. Like Re-take, there's talk about it.

Thinking of which - back on topic, bitches! (to coin a phrase :D)

After reviewing the end, I'm still gonna go with it was their "daughter" that was also an Angel. My reasoning is that it looks to me like they were trying to combine a bit of the Shinji design with a bit of the Asuka design in that character, and that it's the only small child that I can think of that was associated with teh two of them.

Argument against: Different color hair (theoretically) then their "daughter". While the "daughter" is only shown in B&W previously, her her is shown to be a shade of gray. In B&W Shinji's hair is show to be black, leading us to believe that darker hair color's other than black would be shown as gray (like Asuka), while those with black hair would have black hair in the B&W pages. However, the little girl at the end has black hair, so if she was the daughter, wouldn't she have black hair in the B&W pages?

Possible explination: Character design discrepency on the part of the artist.

Nah, I don't think so. Their 'daughter' doesn't even exist there. And waking up nude and dazed on a beach isn't becoming of an astral projection, like Rei.

I only read this once so I could be wrong, but I was kind of under the impression the kid at the end was kyoko in kid form for some reason. I forget what she said that made me think that. so I'm going to have to go back and reread that before I make any concrete conclusions there.

Wait a minute! You come back as you imagine yourself in your heart, right?

IT'S GENDO! Deep down in his heart he saw himself as a naked little girl with long black hair.

Why is this in "omake"? Monkey isn't gonna add it to the site, obviously...

Right. So, if I imagine myself in my heart as a Lovecraftian Elder Thing, then I will reembody as a Lovecraftian Elder Thing.

Why omake? Well, it's cool and Eva-related. Adding it to the site is just optional anyway.

Excellent doujinshi; I LOVED it! The mind-fuck properties of some of the scenes (ie: Shinji thinking Asuka was alive (he thought he had sex with her, then post-3I Asuka showed up and told him like it was) when it turned out she was still preassumed dead.) were excellent, they were on par with the series itself, I'd say. What I thought was also great was how all the characters were IN CHARACTER, none seemed to be OOC. ^_^

Here are some questions/therioes brought up on another site that I replied to:

Anyway, I think the ending of Retake was similar to Eva itself where it ulitmately means what you want to it.
Though, here are my own theories:
1) Shinji and Asuka are alive, (just sleeping or unconscious?) and they’ve finally accepted each other after all that happened. Basically “they’ve forgiven [each other], so now they can find happiness”, to quote various characters who said that this volume. ^_^
2) The little girl at the end who leaves the Sea of LCL? At first, I was thinking she was Shinji and Asuka’s daughter (espeically how their daughter herself/”God” told the mindless past Asuka to get along with Shinji), but looking at it again, I guess she’s just a child who could envision herself and thus decided to return to Earth.
3) Because Shinji and Asuka’s daughter, “God”, appeared, prehaps she was the child Asuka was pregnant with, thus is part Angel, hence her status as God??
