Watched, Blood-C and Mawaru Penguindrum.

Blood-C was alright. We learned a little about what's really going on, but more questions then answers still remain. Saya was also almost more then I could stand. Better for her to have died then to become what she now is.

MP was. . . it was. . . I really shouldn't have watched Blood-C first.

Regardless, you like things other people would regard as stupid junk, like Aquarion.

A lot of people like Madoka, which you regard as stupid junk.

Acting as if your stupid junk is better than their stupid junk is asinine. We all like some stupid things for stupid reasons, that does not mean one's taste is "superior" to the other, or that you should laud their genre's "inferiorities".

Your position to pass judgment is no better than theirs.

How would you rank the series overall? I tried the first episode, but it was just grating hell with the animation design, and seemingly pointless directorial style.

Does it improve any?

Kami-sama Dolls...

SPOILER: Show
Protagonist becomes a seki again... saw that coming from episode 2. The sister improved, but the narrative has been centering on her brother, so having her fight all the battles just wasn't making much sense, not to mention Aki has to be resolved somehow...

I don't even know what laud means.

Nanoha was aimed at 20something adult males.

In contrast, majority of mecha anime like Mazinger Z were aimed at little boys

There are many amusing things in this world.

(not that I'm claiming target audience makes show better or worse, hell Totoro is one of the best anime ever, but as far as childishness and "manlyness" of cartoons go your judgements might be more than a bit skewed :P)

Which kind of makes it pedo-bait, which begs the question why the hell is it compared to the Gundam franchise?
Down with the unmanly people whose arguments I cannot rebut!

The term you're thinking of is sh/eeple. ;) I also can't tell if you're agreeing with what I said or being sarcastic.

You have to read between the lines for the first couple episodes. But by the halfway mark, you shouldn't even have to do that.

Yeah, then proceed to rip it a new one, acting as if this crap is somehow worse than your own crap.

We all have blindsides, thing were more easily to forgive, and tropes we preferably like to see.

I'm no exception, I like Digimon Tamers and feel everyone on this board should give it a shot (DO IT NOW!), but I also recognize it's still a kid's show, suffering from many of the clichés there-in, and a merchandise vehicle at that. For many, that's a turn off.

Equally, like you, I have no interest in general for the Mahou Shoujo genre, but I don't go around trolling their threads or its fans, because I know doing that would just make me a hypocrite. I have an interest in something others could scoff at me for, and just as easily as I could scoff at them for theirs.

In other words, it's live and let live. If people are getting obsessive over something you think is dumb, then just let them, there's no need to ruin the vibe by stepping in and saying "Yeah, this is crap, don't get why you like this stuff, it's so unmanly."

It doesn't make you look cool or puts you in a place of moral superiority, it just breeds resentment.

Also, you'd best not be stealing my meme now. :smokin:

I do let people enjoy their stuff, although when I don't like something I am going to ask why it appeals to them.

All I see are more frames, more slides, and more pixels. Then again you said metaphor so clearly it means I'm looking for something that is not there. What exactly am I supposed to be looking for again?

Let me say one thing here - despite TDSA absolutely hating Madoka and saying so (and in the Madoka thread no less) I do not consider him a troll. He is honest with his feeling and that is fine, and what is most important, he did not write lengthy rants with intense hate words or keep attacking the show in a thread mainly populated by the show's fans. He just keeps his comment short and brief, and we are free to just let him be, so it did not really bother me :)

That said, I would prefer TDSA to pick up a bit more modesty and see why it does not make sense saying "I watch all these famous magic girl shows and I don't like them, so this means there is nothing good about them and they are all trash". As Alaska Slim said "it's live and let live", which is something a bit too lacking among western anime fans.

That's not what metaphor means. What exactly are you trying to say again?

If all you see are frames, slides, and pixels, I can assume you're also just seeing lines enclosing colors with some shading thrown in. Likewise, all that dialogue and music are just some garbled blips of language that refer endlessly to other signifiers that have no signified concepts. Where are the characters? Where are the stories? Where are the settings? It's all just a string of movement-images and sound-images put into an arbitrary sequence with no meaning whatsoever. You might as well be watching static and listening to white noise.

Like I said before, my questions pertain more to the fact as to why people enjoy this. Normally I can enjoy anything. If they like it then okay, although when I don't like something that has gotten very popular I am going to have to wonder why people enjoy it.

Well, I got up to ep 3 in Nanoha. Hey, this series is actually good, specifically at the point where
SPOILER: Show
I F**KING DROPPED IT. Why did you trick me into seeing lolicon, Mr. Tines? I'll admit that at first my claim of it being pedo-bait was a tad baseless, then I found out that there are loli clubs at MAL with this series being mentioned. I am very disturbed right now. :scared: I found this out this morning and figured "maybe it's not really a loli anime and it just.... grew a crowd." So I watched ep 3 and since it didn't really improve from the first two eps............. Yeah.

However I will give Mr. Tines a chance to explain himself and if he makes a convincing case I'll give this series one more shot.

TDSA hated Madoka? lolwut

I was absolutely sure he'd like it :headscratch:

...Anyway, watched a few episodes of Tokyo Magnitude 8.0. Pretty good so far I suppose, I appreciate that the show tries to be realistic more or less. But OBVIOUSLY there are forced baww moments like in episode 4 where Mirai and Yuuki (sister/brother) just stand there in a parking lot and burst out in tears simultaneously . Oh well.

Oh yeah and the character design is horrible. WHEN WILL THEY REALIZE THAT FEMALE ANIME CHARACTERS WITHOUT LIPS LOOK RIDICULOUS WITH LIPSTICK

You can ask questions without toning them as condescension.

Anyway, watching D.Gray-Man, one of the "big titles" I've been meaning to get to. At 103 episodes, it should last a while, at any rate.

I give you credit for not using that word, although using "can't find ONE GOOD THING ABOUT THIS SERIES" "disappointing as hell" and "had nothing going for it" is not really much better...

As for Nanoha, it is indeed a true and true loli show (and not even targeted for little girls because it was aired in midnight). You are allergic to loli ?
