As I said before, if they are going to announce the release date of the new movie it would be one year in advance so that they can work fans' expectation and lay out the merchandise and event schedule to build momentum. Now the announcement is made and as expected it is one year from now.

Welp, my day just got 10 times better. This is awesome. Sure, we have another year to wait (till it even shows in theatres, then we need to wait for the dvd and even then for the movie to be subbed), but besides all that this is great. I really liked 2.0 (IMO, it was great), and this teaser gives me even more hope than I already had for 3.0.

Pirate!Asuka seems even more badass than I originally thought she'd be.

The sequence itself is probably meant to get the butthurt Asuka fans to keep watching rebuild. Looks like she will be doing something to do her epic looking suit justice. I said, my impression of it was that it looked "war like". She even discards a helmet in the frevor of battle, it's so cool.
And, mysterious as ever, they did not quite reveal what she was shooting at...
The CGI still looks a tad raw (they still have time to correct that) but even so, the scene looks very promising.
I never thought they could Top the EoE Eva Series battle in terms of fluid, biological animation (just looks at how Asuka's hair flows!) and then they gave me Mari and Rei vs Zeruel.
Looks like they have topped themselves once again: This very dynamic perspective following the EVA, the panorama shot of space and the earth,
Asuka's fluid full-body movement which conveys the intense emotions of a warrior... and hair spilling out from under a helmet. I've a fetish for that ever since I saw Elfen Lied. Double points for it being red hair. Mari's was tied up, so it couldn't really "spill out". But this Asuka, not Mari. It doesn't suit Asuka to fight with her face hidden, so the helmet has to go in mid-battle. I think this says a lot about their personalities.
It's also very Asuka-like for her and her fancy production model to get the battle which requires the cool hightech equiptment. The ace-ish spinning-move is also very much her fighting style.

As for the battle itself, I'd say that it takes place before Shinji's awakening. I imagine it like this: - the NERV ppl are captured, an Angel attacks, forcing SEELE to release them. Asuka gets put in charge of killing the Angel so they can recover Shinji... It might even involve an EoE-like awakening scene.
Either way, look at her: She seems to have been wearing a helmet, and... isn't this our positron riffle there? Seems like Rebuild!Misato didn't return it, either. The "helmet" is probably the EVA-02-version of the aiming headgear. Unique versions, just like with the entry plugs.
Seems like this time, they *do* have a way to get an EVA into Orbit. This might be Asuka taking Revenge on Arael, if only in a meta-way. XD

In any case, this trailer, as short as it is, should at least have cleaned up the following questions:

a) The Oceans are INDEED all red.
b) Shinji will not spend the majority of the movie liquified - the text mentions his awakening as the very first thing
c) We'll be getting our Kaworu!
d) They did indeed patch EVA 02 back together and Asuka will keep piloting it.

I'm glad that many of my assumptions got confirmed

it would be awesome if Asuka gets to fight kaworu and squash that vermin like a bug !! i mean look at the shot, they distinctively cast her eva against the moon,there must be a meaning to that.

Also note the cockpit seat is diferent as well.

Except Kaworu should be on earth, near Shinji... It would be more awesome if she's transformed into a Eva-human synthesis like in Anima, this is an event that played on the moon in that continuity.
