Which EVA character would you fatten up?

This is the place to start: Feel free to introduce yourself, have general conversations and casual discussions about all things Evangelion, including chit-chatty topics like "Sachiel is adorable" or "Which Eva kicks the most ass?"

Inconsistent animation quality aside, I think they're all just fine and wouldn't add any weight to any of 'em (particularly the kids, on account of the fact that they're kids; give 'em time to fill out before ya start calling 'em skinny!).

I'm 23 and am still as thin as Asuka. I think this means I need more pizza and beer.

Erk. Asuka's, like, 80 lbs or so. If you're 23 and you're as thin as she is (and a guy to boot)...yeah, go eat something.

Also, something people tend to forget: Asuka and Shinji are under five feet tall and 13/14 years old. They should not have adult proportions. The fact that they don't in the show is a good thing.

Ok, that was my fault from awkward wording. I tried to say it in the most polite way I could, but it was too vague.
If someone is fat, it's that person's fault for not eating better and exercising more.

That's more of a stereotype than a truism, really. It certainly applies in a lot of cases, but there's a lot more to it than that (which goes way beyond the scope of this thread, but suffice it to say that the information's out there if you care to look for it).

Edit: Because sarcasm doesn't carry through on the internet, I should probably word that better.

The idea that just diet and exercise impacts a persons weight is not always true. Following the "a person is fat because they eat bad and don't exercise" I should be morbidly obese. But I'm not. Inversely I have friends who eat nowhere near as much, or as horribly as me, and regularly exercise more than me and still manage to be heavier than me. Yeah eating has a lot to do with it, but it also has to do with a person's metabolism. And of course the differences between men and women when it comes to weight.

There's even more to it than that. Economic status is also a factor, at least in the U.S. If you google the term "food desert" you're in for a shock; it never even occurred to me that a good chunk of the country doesn't have easy access to a basic supermarket. When you're forced to rely on fast food or convenience stores your ability to eat healthy drops dramatically. Similarly, if you're working two or three jobs just to pay rent and make ends meet your ability to exercise regularly also goes out the window.

Now, if you're talking about a middle class guy with a steady job? Different story entirely. And that's who we think of when we think of fat slobs who need to diet and exercise more. But they're not the whole story. The long and the short of it is that it really sucks to be poor in the U.S. (it sucks to be poor anywhere, of course, but it sucks particularly hard in the U.S. because of the way our public transportation and social safety nets, or lack thereof, are set up).

Was talking about the developed world there, chief. In that context the U.S. is the last place you wanna be poor.

Bring on the fatties.

Really if I was Misato I'd fret over Asuka's weight like an overbearing mother. Also Tunnel needs more fat and then some.

It's just the drawing style (The only moment where I can see it showing painfully is ep 1 when you see Misato and Ritsuko standing next to each other) but animation is supposed/allowed to be somewhat stilized.
It's like when kids draw stick people, just more sophisticated

Misato is probably supposed to be relatively curvy (She complains about a dress not fitting anymore/erased her measurements from the ID card we see in ep 9)

The only one who's probably supposed to look thin is Asuka. (Because her thinness even stands out in noodle-ppl-land and they visibly draw her ribs in that closeup shot in ep 22 when she's complaining about her period. They exxagerate her somewhat in fanservice shots, but when you see her next to other females(for example, Rei), she always has noticeably less body fat)
It kind of fits with her being that "model-like popular girl type with an unhealthy drive to be perfect"

Rebuild makes them all look more normal (and consistent, except for the penguin incident because of lulz ) except for afore mentioned Asuka. Just compare shots where you see the girls wearing their uniforms... Rei's accurate female-hips-shape does show.

I'm pretty sure Shinji looks scrawny there for comedic purposes

Also, he's probably just meant to look "not yet that developed"/ or having a rather "whimp-y" physique (There are a few scenes that suggest that he's a tad stronger than he looks like, tough...) rather than seriously hollywood-levels-of-thin

After the 250 lbs ( probably more... ) 'Sailor Saturn' cosplayer I've seen today, I would say no one. I really like them the way they are.
