yeah, there are plenty of Asuka fans on this board - I'm pretty sure they overshadow Rei fans in numbers.

I guess I count as Asuka fan too, even if Misato is nowadays my favourite she's still easily on the second place and she was #1 for years...

It's understandable; after all, she's a well-drawn character, something even her detractors (grudgingly) admit. Heck even Reichu, clearly not a fan, admits that her arc was effective. That speaks well of both Reichu and Asuka IMO.

I guess my favorite is Kaji, since he's the only seminal character in the series who doesn't whine all the time.

Just kidding; my favorite one is Shinji.

WIth "well-drawn character" I guess you mean well-depicted? I initially thought you were talking about how she looks like, honestly

Male: Shinji
-Take away the abandonment and daddy issues and you get me. Er, well, you would have... watching Shinji helped me get through my issues. It's an on-going struggle and I still have a ways to go, but I can proudly say I have grown from my experiences.

Female: Mari
-I realize that she's new, but Mari stands out to me above the other females in the cast. Mari seems to be the type of person that I want to be; strong, determined, and confident despite being awkward (she sniffs Shinji... 0.o). It also seems that she's just fine being herself.

Not a long or indepth answer but...

Asuka without a doubt. Before watching Eva I could never fathom the lengths people go to with characters, but damn if I had the disposable income I'd consider buying an Asuka dakimakura, or maybe a figurine.

Honestly, I don't think finding one would be hard, I think the hard part would be assuring quality and what not, because the metrics I'd be working with would be Greek to me, not to mention whether a site is trust worthy or not. Regardless, that's still way to much money for me to splurge on a pillow. Give it a few years though, eventually I'll hit that point no doubt, seems the natural progression for people like me.

I'm more of a shy, introverted guy myself and I empathised more with the likes of Rei and Shinji if anything - so I do find it quite odd sometimes that Asuka is my favourite out of the entire cast. I usually don't associate and get along with those type of people IRL (I'm quite socially inept and incompetent, tbh) and I do find them quite exasperating to socialise with sometimes.

But I really did feel sorry for the girl (especially in episode 22) in regards to her discord with her mother at a young age and I really did pity the girl during her breakdown/downfall.

Anyway, I thought the entire cast was quite brilliant and the characters were nothing short of spectacular and I love them all for different reasons but if I had to choose a favorite it would be the flamboyant Asuka.

My favorite is still Misato if anyone's curious. That women can carry a 7 minute cartoon all by herself if someone is willing to do it; can't say the same for the others.

I'm rewatching parts of the "Ascent" arc, and I'd forgotten just how brilliantly, sarcastically funny Asuka was. Through episodes 8 - 13, (and until she started to snap), Asuka was a fresh charge of energy into the show, and (particularly in episode 8), she really brought out Shinji's inner willpower/snark. If only this show wasn't about the slow corrosion brought on by *lack* of communication, those two really could've made an amazing team...

Favorite Asuka [s]whine[/s] line thus far (from the detox scene in Ep. 13): "Alllll right, I'm here, just the way you wanted - butt-naked and run through the wash cycle seventeen times!"

I know what you mean. They would've made a great buddy cop duo in those episodes.

*Asuka jumps a car off a ramp or something equally reckless*
*Shinji groans/mutters a complaint/nearly passes out*

Then Misato chews them out back at the precinct.
"Those damn kids are embarrassing us again!"
