I really should know these...
I got Menma the first time, then refreshed and got the one with Madoka. It's not any kind of news, I don't think.
My... my kanji's still pretty bad, so I can't... really understand it...

Past 70 or so pages, the forum's ability to manage threads slow down the longer the thread gets. At some point the front of a thread gets lopped off and linked to a locked thread, when I eventually get around to do it in the database. Or, if it's an immediate problem, another mod can lock the thread and create a new one, linking to the old one.

Ah OK so keep posting as usual and let the admins worry about things.
So...here's a couple scans that I saw floating around from NewType in July's issue. Don't know how interesting the article itself is but these pictures seem to say it.
And the advertising for it as well - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gWoOr_LtRYU

HUGE POST about PMMM !!!
Time for me to contribute back into my most beloved thread PMMM!!
I heard that discussions in the west about PMMM have died down quite a bit? But when I was in Japan, PMMM is still damned hot. Bookstores still have piles of PMMM manga on display. PMMM BD/DVD (2 volumes so far) are on prominent display and apparently sell very well. The amount of PMMM doujin has exploded -- I saw more than 5 times the space now devoted to PMMM when I visited Tora no Ana store in Akihabara, and the encouraging thing is a much bigger proportion (slightly more than half?) are for all age (I bought a bunch of them, all with Homu x Mado theme of course; will share pic later). Interviews and articles about PMMM came up in unlikely places, including some mainstream wide-circulation magazines. Even Mandarake put up QB signs on the floor near the cashier counter to get people to line up properly. The festivity is still out there and strong, more than 6 weeks after the last episodes were aired.
Before I post new stuff, perhaps a good idea to reply to some old posts from last week that I missed:
In the meantime, here is the PMMM doujin haul from a PMMM fan who claimed that he had never bought any doujin before:
=========
OK, let me translate the Japanese text from the interview that was posted in the link:
Q - Ah, I see...
A - And so, with the change in style, producers from the same age group finally appeared. And finally the flow that had one joining because he loved anime started to change. But whatever is said, the impact of "Evangelion" becoming a hit was huge. Without that there could not be the time we have now.
Q - You think so?
A - Yes, no doubt about it. If that did not become such a hit, probably we could not have made anime like we do now. But then only "Evangelion" was really a kind of exception (lol)
Q - Ah, that is true...(lol)
Q - (too little left to translate properly)
A - No, I could not tell a single bit. Although in general I could tell that whether the anime would be abandoned by fans or taken in by them would be decided by the development in Ep.3. "Madoka" is a work that made my heart beat faster. And then it was indeed taken in. By the time I strongly felt a premonition of this becoming a hit, I thought so good that I had done that. I felt relieved. "Madoka" was a work that was really hard to make, and I got really scared, to the extent that I
would not be able to decide what to do if because of that [the anime] got abandoned.
Q - But then, as in Bakemonogatari as well as Madoka, the audience ..... till the end.....
=======
This is not something new. By Ep.3 analyses and comparison with Kamen Rider Ryuki were everywhere, particularly in 2ch. I am not a fan of tokusetsu so I did not see that show but from what I gathered Ryuki managed to subvert quite a few "established practice" for kamen rider kind of superhero show, some of them listed in the comparison above. Ryuki also had grim and tragic mood pervasive through the show and apparently the casualty (death) count was much higher. It is a credit to Urobutch that he decided not to have one character killed in each episode (from interview material that approach was indeed discussed but dropped quite soon).
======
I am more interested in the summary of the PMMM article in July issue of Megami megazine.... (translation below)
Besides that, there are a few interesting bits in that 2ch thread:
- Melon Book (one of the manga/anime/doujin specialist bookstore chains) tweeted that there is no need to wake up early and queue outside their stores to get PMMM manga Vol.3 because they have stocked the biggest inventory ever for a manga in their Akihabara branch
- Just by the Butch Gen's tweet about his alma mater, 2ch could figure out he graduated from Department of Literature of Waseda University (one of the top colleges in Japan)
- http://void.heteml.jp/flash/bullet_magica/
This shooting arcade game is quite fun. Basically you use left/right key to pick the mahou shoujo character (and the witch) and then Z to confirm the pick. In the game you use cursor to move around and Z to shoot. Different mahou shoujo has different attributes and special skills.
- Below seems to be taken from a PMMM doujin event and the doujin merchandise (cardboard for hanging?) seems to be quite well made. The yuri theme is just lovely Apparently the most popular is the Kyouko x Sayaka (the label said "Sold Out") or perhaps it's just that too few were made for KxS compared to say, Homu x Mado...
OK, here is the interesting part...

Urobuchi
- He had planned the fate of the mahou shoujo like in the anime since the early planning stage.
- During the off-recording (seiyuu dubbing), director (Shinbo) got really attached to Sayaka and asked Butch-Gen whether something could be done to get her back but Butch-Gen said impossible (lol)
- Mami has the specialized power to "link and tie up things". The tool of the magic power was ribbon.
- Kyouko had a hidden settai (design): Since Kyouko got her wish of "getting people to listen" realized so in fact she had the power to cause illusion or hallucination, but shocked by the loss of her family, she completed negated her power by suppressing it into her subconscious mind. So she lost her original magic power and she only fought with the magical power she learned and acquired later.
- Kamijou did not see Sayaka as a love object. She was just a close friend of his.
- This work also has a theme about "compromise". Even though they were same types who never tried to understand each other, they still would not give up trying to co-exist. And there is a keen intention not to allow an ending where QB was simply just blown away.
Shinbo
- Iwagami producer from Animplex got his prediction spot-on. He now felt it was one big event that could only be accomplished by everyone's effort and it was so great that he had not had such feeling before.
- Ep.10 was made only after the trimming of the screenplay. If possible Shinbo would like to make it in its complete form. But to make it in complete form, it will need around 45 minutes so perhaps it is not possible...
(symbv: this confirmed the suspicion from many in 2ch. Now the speculation is whether the full Ep.10 may come out in OVA or movie format)
Miscellaneous
- Nonaka (Kyouko's seiyuu) I read the screenplay of Ep.9 in a family restaurant while having a meal. I was so shocked when I saw Sayaka undergo that!
- Mizubashi (Mami's seiyuu) When I went to audition, the sound director kept asking me "this character will die in Ep.3 ! You OK with this? Really?" (lol)
Among Japanese anime fans, the key figure is the combined sales of the BD and the DVD.

The biggest change is the ratio of BD to DVD sales. Where is back in 2009-10, the ratio is 2 to 2.5, in PMMM's case the ratio jumped to 5.5 to 6 which is much higher than the original prediction. This could show the trend of anime video shifting to BD has accelerated a lot this year.
Another thing to take note is that both vol.1 and 2 of PMMM broke the record set by Bake (any volume) for the combined BD/DVD first week sales. So far Vol.1 has the combined sales figure at 73,039 which is still some way to the best selling volumes of Bake (Vol.1 with Hitagi and Vol.4 with Nadeko) but close enough to other volumes of Bake. If the sales have a long tail then it is conceivable the Bake record may even be touched or broken, though it is not too likely from the figures available now.
=====
So Melon Books did not lie when they said they input the biggest number of volumes ever for a manga tankoubon for its Akihabara branch....
Apparently if you buy all 3 manga volumes you get the following case box:
http://blog-imgs-47.fc2.com/y/a/r/yaraon/309753647.jpg
But I found that the box offered by Animate is even better, so I got my PMMM manga from there instead. Will share pic later !
=========
The Madoka figma is really very well done !!!
She was at #1 of Amazon JP ranking of bestselling "toy" last week, though its position is now taken over by the latest Miku figure...
I have a few more pics of the figma to share... I think this figma really has good variety of expressions to take...

So I guess you like singing anime songs in karaoke?

Interested, but this post is getting too long. Let me rest a bit and I will try to translate them..

So Melon Books did not lie when they said they input the biggest number of volumes ever for a manga tankoubon for its Akihabara branch....
Apparently if you buy all 3 manga volumes you get the following case box:

But I found that the box offered by Animate is even better, so I got my PMMM manga from there instead. Will share pic later !

Thank you, symbv. I put your translations on the Madoka wiki, which we still need to revamp rather badly. I'm a terrible slacker.
My contributions, more from July NewType (my last post with Homura and Madoka holding hands and has that long Urobuchi interview):
And this one. It's the only one close-up enough to make out what's said (well that I have so far, I'll be on the look-out for more of course).
Also, speaking of seiyuu and karoake, I must post the obligatory -
*Nico vid of all the Madoka ones singing. http://www.nicovideo.jp/watch/sm13986454 which you can watch if you don't have an account using http://www.mmcafe.com/nico.html.
And of course this scan:

@Random -- Last pic was really amusing, especially when the characters are decked in their respective VAs' clothes (excellent eye for detail), and more funnier when Emiri Katou has QB's head stuck on her.
@symbv -- now that Aniplex has (once more) hit the big homerun (pardon the pun) with the steel bat that is PMMM, their job recruitment announcement possibly indicates that they're up to something even bigger.

marathoned this starting at 9pm, it's 3:30am now, worth it? yes. episode 3 caught me way off guard (although her prior dialogue with madoka and getting cake when they return was quite blatant foreshadowing, the actual scene shocked me enough). it also has one of the better intros i've heard in a while.
i want rebuild
