Now that you say it, the doll appears to have gone through some serious mending/repairwork,. it's arms look asymetric. Also, in old!NGE, Unit 02 had it's head ripped of and lost BOTH of its arms and they still repaired it. Nigouki will be back.

So, it was mentioned before in this thread that yep, Asuka is holding onto Kaworu/Mark 06's spear but I just can't stop thinking about that. Maybe it's simply a promo image similar to NGE!Rei holding Lilith's/Adam's spear. Yet it's strange stuff, especially Asuka's asymmetrical plugsuit design. (It'd be sort of funny if in-universe, it WAS a rush job due to how hectic Nerv will be from this point on with them being under lockdown.)

How does this even need to be asked? There's going to be floods of fanart after 3.0. There's well over 100 pages of new fanart in pixiv made for MacrossF after the second film came out two months ago and more comes every day, with Eva the amount is going to be even larger in volume, many times larger.

and it's not like everything is on pixiv

We saw her entire face get covered by Bardi-goo, so Angel contamination being confined to only one side of her body doesn't make much sense. I think Ritsuko said that traces of cellular contamination went bye-bye, anyway.

The possibility of sympathetic injuries from the link to Eva-03 and Bardi, along with being inside an object that Eva-01 chomped down on, should also be kept in mind.

I have a worrisome feeling that Asuka's role in the NTE series is going to focus on dichotomy, the Harvey Two-Face of the Evangelion universe, and the asymmetrical plug suit only fuels this worry. She's already projected her feelings onto a doll for comfort, and she seems to struggle with being social or remaining independent. Neither of these are very suggestive of my worry, but I can definitely see it going into this direction considering a plausible motif I'm seeing. Then again, it may be nothing; I've no real evidence to support this, and would rather not look for it.

No reason it'd be left or right, since the bandages are on both sides (right arm, left breast, right abdomen, left leg) and the suit's asymmetrical in other ways as well (the doohickies over her ribs, the racing stripes on her thighs). I wouldn't read too much into the spear. The Rei comparison's already been mentioned, and we know she never personally wielded it. But OTOH she died wield it in Unit 02 and she did turn out to be an avatar of Lilith, so... Anyway, in Asuka's case she might wind up being an agent of Kaworu in some fashion, which could be a good thing given that he seems to be bent on making Shinji happy. But even so the "teeth" at her throat kinda make me nervous.

All in all another fine example of Khara giving us a tantalizing image that suggests all sorts of things but doesn't actually tell us a damned thing. Which, now that I think about it, is advertising 101. They're certainly got us hooked!

I will laugh really, really hard if that winds up being Soryu instead of Shikinami. Epic troll is epic!

The obvious answer is that it's suggesting some sort of hybrid or two-sided nature. I wouldn't necessarily assume it's angelic hybrid nature since, after all, Bardiel's physical contamination has been confirmed gone and any mental contamination would presumably be suppressed by the influence of the hex pillars around Shikinami's altar. In fact I'm not entirely sure what sort of hybrid nature it would be in-story, so a symbolic hybrid nature seems more likely.

It would be helpful here if I had a better idea of Shikinami's symbolic value. In NGE, Soryu is symbolic of otherness, the desire for adulthood, sexuality, and in a way NGE itself. But I don't think Shikinami can be said to represent all of these same things: far from being initially portrayed as a foreign and hostile other to Shinji before the conclusion of her character-arc in the catastrophic revelation of their similarities, she discovers that she is exactly like him as the first step in her arc, not the last. She has no desire for adulthood, or indeed anything really besides being treated as a human. Her sexuality embarrasses and scares her (although it's even more constantly showcased than was Soryu's). The hardest question is if she, like Soryu, represents NGE, and perhaps she does - after all, she is the one that Ha destroys, and hers is the Eva that Ha's avatar, Mari, heedlessly wrecks in her own pursuits. If that's the case, then this plugsuit design would suggest that she is symbolic of the synthesis of NGE and NME, bearing details of Shikinami and Makinami alike (and Soryu, which is probably telling of something but I can't really bring myself to care what at the moment).

Of course it's also possible that Shikinami's character in Ha isn't in any way meant to be taken as a symbol of NGE, but if that's the case then I really don't know what the best angle of analysis for her character is.
