I didn't see this in the listings, so I figured I should post it.

Has anyone else seen the German dub of Rebuild 1.11 and 2.22?
It is really good, if you speak German as a second language (like me), it is a great way to practice, plus, some of the lines just kick major ass when spoken in German.

Does the German Mari also curse? Can I custom splice those curses into Tiffany Grant's performance?

A little. It is funny to hear Mari say "Scheiße!" ("Shit!") with a German accent, when she's really British, the same is also true for Kaji speaking to the British NERV with an unmistakably German accent.

The Dub is really pretty good, imho better than the english dub... especiall Shinjis voice. Spencer has such a strange pitch in hos voice.

Yeah. Considering that their name is German (for "Soul"), it fits even more. There is a bit of German influence in some of the names of the organizations: "Gehirn", for example, means "Brain".

I been have trying to find the German series dub for quite a while. It was very difficult to find a torrent of Rebuild 1.11 and 2.22. Since I have not seen it, I can't really comment, from what I've seen on Youtube, it sounds excellent, though.

Yeah, it was great... It's a good thing that Gendo's and Shinji's voice actors returned, but Misato's new one doesn't convince me much - Rei's, Asuka's and Mari's are like... meh/mostly acceptable, but I can't help the feeling that the dubbing of the anime was done with much more love.

I don't speak German, but I've heard the German dub of Evangelion is one of the better ones, along with the Japanese and English versions. The Italian one looks pretty good too, though that's another topic.

I don't wanna start anything, I just hate it, that every topic (No matter what it is about, no matter in which forum) that compares something has at least one flame already on the first page.

I haven't tried the Italian yet...(since I wouldn't understand it) I've only seen bits and pieces of the english one but I got the impression that it was a bit over the top at times - most of it was fine, tough, except for Asuka's squeaking, ear drum frying voice actress.

But yeah, the german one is very good, they did their best to keep the "serious" atmosphere and not to "decorate" it too much (The only thing one could complain about would be that the pronunciation of the names was occassionally a bit off, but meh, I dun wanna be picky. )- but as I said before, this is for the Anime, the Rebuild one is... meh.

The german rebuild dub did a good job, they even kept the jap. screaming and mixed it well with the german voice.

The English version has its ups and downs, but by and large I find it quite good, and it has a kind of raw, immersive quality to it that makes you overlook its weaker points once you get into it. There are a few scenes in particular that I flat-out prefer in English (the one that most readily comes to mind being the notorious EoE hospital scene). Tiffany Grant (Asuka's English VA) sounds pretty obnoxious in that role, but I think that's by design - Asuka herself is pretty obnoxious. Grant is at her best when portraying Asuka as her boisterous, confident everyday self or at her most despondent, but struggles with some of her more distressed or emotional scenes. In all fairness, I find Yuko Miyamura's Asuka voice pretty shrieky and grating, too. I think it's just a part of the character.

I've only seen a couple very brief clips of the German dub, but it seemed pretty decent based on those. If you have any clips of particularly notable scenes on hand, do share them.

@Kendrix: They kept the Japanese screaming in the dub? That just seems lazy. And potentially jarring.

If they did, they did their job good enough for me to miss it - I was rather disaponited by lack of loud vocalization in the Za Beasto scene...

It was me, who wrote this not Kendrix ^^ So let me explain the whole thing. In Germany we have the big problem, that everyone complains so much about german dubs. The NGE Series done well, but like Kendrix said, the pronounciation of the names where totally wrong. For me it doesn't matte if they say Asuka or ASKA, but many people were totally angry about such things. (Same happened when the german Naruto Dub was released in free tv and SASKE turned to SASUKA).

In the Rebuild Dub the german publisher Universal was overseeing all the complaints to make the best possible german anime dub our country has seen so far. So one of the complaints was the Pronounce-Complaint. Now every name is spoken out Japanese. The other big complaint was the lack of emotions, so all of our voices are speaking in much more darker, depressive tone (But still we are not Japanese, we are not screaming 80% the time, we don't have the sound that Japanese people have). So in the end scenes like Shinjis second battle against an angle (I CANT RUN AWAY) are mixed with the Japanese dub, to keep shinjis screams like they are in jap. and it sounds very good. I look if I can't find the clip online.

Universal did nothing more but to do us german fans a favour, and they did well. But maybe I'm just to optimistic because I like german and Japanese dubs generelly and I rarely prefer the jap. dub only if the german one sounds like a bad porn (which had happen often in the 80s and 90s)

I can jump into the dub at any given moment for the series but with Rebuild I really have to push myself.

Particularly the Za Beasto part lacked tension. Mari's dub voice in general feels underwhelming to me.
