Nice work on the set design & costumes. Too bad it visually looks pretty ugly.
All in all, should make a decent-if forgettable- summer blockbuster. I've been burned too many times by Joe "Jurassic Park III" Johnston to get excited by anything his name is attached too.
Honestly, concerning Marvel 2011, at the moment I'm more interested in THOR which looks like it could be a wonderful 2 hours of "Over Acting" stupidity.

Is it me or did Chris Evan's head photoshopping seem a little bit shit?

judging by the trailer, this one movie may not be a total waste of celluloid, especially among all the other Marvel films coming out this summer and for the foreseeable future
director Joe Johnston is a old favorite of mine, as films like The Rocketeer and Honey, I Shrunk the Kids were hallowed "new" classics for me as a kid and they still are, Jumanji was one of the last films Robin Williams made that I actually enjoyed a lot, and October Sky was alright as was Jurassic Park III, though he has not made anything as good since
from what I have seen of this, Johnston appears to be doing his best to take inspiration from Christopher Nolan's treatment of Batman, which I hope turns out to be a positive thing and not a hindrance nor a misguided direction in the end
at best, maybe even The Rocketeer could also be a great source

Good film. Not sorry I saw it. Totally unsurprising. Left the end wide open for Winter Soldier, Agent Carter avec Infinity Serum, and Red Skull returning. The action scenes were as satisfying as Thor's (not the Destroyer scene) and more numerous. Managed to cram in a lot of characters without really giving anyone the shaft.
I think Chris Evans did a fine job. He won't be replacing John Barrowman as the Captain I'd go gay for, but he brings earnestness to the character, which is all you really need to sell Captain America.
I was pleased to see Loki's actor in the Avengers trailer. I had heard he wouldn't be returning.

Just watched it.
At least it was better then Thor.
The coolest thing about this movie: Mr. Stark is canonically Iron-Man's father. This is begging for the- oh wait, they already are doing an Avengers movie with Iron Man, Captain America, Thor and the Green Lantern. Wonderful.

I thought it was great. It did keep the feel of WWII pretty nicely, I loved the characters and the humor was pretty good too. I like it more then Thor and it was a very fun movie. Hugo Weaving as the Red Skull was wicked and the movie was a great addition to the Marvel movie universe. Make sure to wait at end as well ;).

Saw it last night. Eh, it was okay.
SPOILER: Show
The sci-fi aspect really turned me off, and everything I really liked about it just made me want to go watch The Rocketeer. Outside of that I liked that they didn't really push the love interest to where she fell into the comic book heroine who always needs to be rescued. I loved Stark and Tommy Lee Jones. Captain America charming and so was the bond drive. Hugo Weaving (pre-his face falling off, I don't care if it's canonical to the comics and he's supposed to look that way, it looked stupid) was pretty great as well.
But really my main problem with the movie was that it just made me want to go watch another movie, and the sci-fi aspect. It didn't need lasers. They should have kept it at exaggerated 1940's technology. Like the massive plane at the end was fine because that's something the Nazis would make in their insanity. The fights were way too overblown as well. I would have preferred something like Saving Private Ryan or BoB but with a guy in tights running through gun fire and smacking people with a shield.
Finally. Minor complains - It needed more swastikas. I wanted Captain America kicking Nazi ass. I wanted someone like Himmler getting impaled with an American flag! And the racial diversity-quota of Captain America's squad really stood out. Racial diversity is great and all, but when you're in 1943 it really sticks out as casting that's just there to keep people from complaining that your movie is too "white". Captain America forgetting he had a side arm 80% of the time was also a minor annoyance.

While I can understand and respect where you're coming from Tarnsman there are a couple things I'd like to point out on what you said.
First off, the Howling Commandos were racially diverse in the comics and they were in WW2. Second, the very fact Captain America even used a gun kind of does contradict what he does in the comics (or at least the 616 universe); it would be like if Sonic The Hedgehog, Sherlock Holmes, Batman, or even Spider-Man using a gun, it's just not them. Captain America was basically the "Be All You Can Be" type hero, he was the pinnacle of human health which is something most people could achieve. CA's character was always more about heart and guts over iron and steel.

That's not really true. At the end of the day, Captain America is a soldier. He's willing to kill enemies when necessary even in modern times, and he definitely didn't hold back during WWII. Guns are a necessity on the battlefield.

Firstly, it is literally impossible for me to care less about how faithful to the comics it is. If I don't like it, saying that "well that's the way it was in the comics" isn't going to fix it. I liked Captain America using a gun. It made him feel more real. Same with his downplayed costume in the last part of the movie.
Secondly, regardless of The Howling Commandos, it doesn't change the fact that units were simply not racially integrated in WW2. It's just one of those things that completely takes me out of the movie. If this was set in say, Vietnam, I would have no complaints. If you can't make a movie set in that time without worrying about it being "too white" go remake Go For Broke! or something. Granted they were part of a special unit and so it didn't come across as out of place as them trying to diversify a standard fighting unit. But with how little those characters were focused on, there wasn't enough time for any of them to develop past people who just felt like they were there to make sure that people couldn't complain that the movie had too many white Americas. At least they didn't make an internment camp joke with the Asian guy.
