Squandered potential: The motion picture
Seriously though, the first half..If you have any interest or taste at all in a good sci-fi movie, the first half of this movie is incredible and goes so far with the idea of people recording memories, from porn to real live snuff films.. I was wondering at this point why this isn't considered a classic.
...And then the 2nd half comes, where the real meat of the plot comes in, and it happens to be shit. Bleh, so many things stuffed in (major references to the famous Rodney King incident in LA, which happened a few years before the movie came out) which were so out of place with the main concept of the movie, I don't even know where to begin..
Still, totally worth watching for the first half or so. Ralph Fiennes was very good as the complex main character and Angela Bassett was fucking ripped. Wow.

Not sure about Israel, but Night Porter is quite well-known as a cult classic. The moral theme is so ambivalent (particularly for the Jewish woman character) that I wonder how it is received in Israel...

The Tai Chi Master (Yuen Woo Ping) - Funny to think that this used to be my favorite movie. I mean, it's a fun little wire fu fest, but there's so many glaring flaws. How many shots were the wires visible in? Too many. Plus that whole "head jump" (you know what I'm talking about if you've seen the movie) just doesn't work, not even in the context of a kung fu comedy.

It's been a longggg time since I watched La Jetee, but if I remember right, isn't that one of the primary influences for Oshii's segment of Twilight Q? There' obvious influence with the amount of stills that dominate the cinematography, but I thought the narratives were supposed to be pretty similar as well.

Oz made me want to watch Electric Dragon 80000V and I did. Pretty interesting but surprisingly drab in terms of feel despite all the liveliness/silliness.
Fish Tank was pretty uneventful. Duck Soup was hilarious as always even if I'm becoming more and more anticipatory with the gags---slightly clouding their effect. Also Moolade in my Third Cinema class.
