I'm a little surprised that there's not a thread about it yet (not even about episode 1, or at least I couldn't find one) anyway has anyone seen episode 2 yet?
I'm wondering if they're going to keep this pace for the next episodes or if they're going to further expand the duration of the episodes, right now I have the feeling that each episode barely make it in fitting the most important points of the novel in an OVA (and in fact they've extended it in duration compared to the first episode and they've also changed the format from BD25 to BD50).
Anyway Full Frontal was simply outstanding, I hope that we won't be deluded by the Second Coming of Char in the next episodes (actually especially in the final or near the final).
I'm a little disappointed that they didn't allow to pre-order it from amazon this time, I'm still waiting to purchase it since Bandai's shop doesn't accept orders from outside the U.S. (their colonies/dependencies) and Canada, I wonder what was the reason that prevented them from allowing Amazon to receive pre-orders (too many copies being ordered from Japan?).
So let’s make a wish.

It's like a blowjob made of Gundam cliches. Incredibly derivative, but the production values are great. It has a great soundtrack, and I love how the writers treat even faceless mooks with respect.

Unicorn has been mentioned in a few of the Gundam threads that are knocking about the place.

Personally, I like it. Awesome action and animation, usual bland-ish characters, but it's always good to see Char, sorry, 'Full Frontal' being awesome.

The latest episode was pure, newtype-powered awesomeness. I love the retcon implication that...

Sorry guys but could you suggest me some place where I can purchase it (unless Bandai want to leave us Europeans without other options than pirate it. I'd like to have it especially for the BD extras and BD Live);
I didn't check Amazon a pair of days ago when it was out (because I forgot that it was going to be released in that day) but now I'm checking it and it's not available from Amazon itself (did they already sold it out?) but only from bandai entertainment and they won't ship it outside of U.S. and Canada as in their own shop.
Do you know somewhere where it can be shipped to the old (forgotten) Europe?
I wasn't considering options other than Amazon since I purchased the first BD from them...
So let’s make a wish.

First 8mins of Gundam Unicorn 3.

Bandai was so quick to stamp out their stuff being circulated around without their permission -- the clip is banned in Japan youtube... Does it work for others? Anyway, the first 8 min can be viewed in the Bandai own website, but it requires registration...huh...

For the BD of MS UC Unicorn 3 it is available for pre-order in Amazon JP -- Check here

I think that from a design aspect Unicorn is tied with Tallgeese I as my favourite mech from the franchise. I haven't seen any episodes yet but I've read a bit of the novel.

I'm a noobie, and considering what I am about to say, I'm sure 90% of Gundam fans in this forum will flame and block me for what I'm about to say. Note that I'm not trying to insult UC fans directly: its actually the writers.
But I'll move on to that later...

I must say, when I heard about Gundam Unicorn, I was like "What? Again? A whiny teenage protagonist...again? The whole 'adults are evil' thing...again? A series in which 90% of the useful female characters will die either horrible deaths or completely pointless deaths by protecting the protagonist who can't protect himself? Sigh..."
And so I foolishly asked a Japanese friend of mine to translate the novels for me (I paid him a couple of hundred bucks for that; its a LONG story), and so I read them....

And I was COMPLETELY disappointed. But then, I thought the director and staff might, just MIGHT, change the überclusterf*** ending the novel had

SPOILER: Show
(anyone who's watched EoE, 2001 Space Odyssey, Ideon and the like will know what I mean)
,

along with the other worst parts of it

SPOILER: Show
(interesting characters bite the dust and Banana Links and Riddhe Jerksenuss are forced down our throats like a couple of Kira clones)

and actually improve the story overall, refreshing the overdone and overused UC timeline.

Alas, my hopes were for naught...

For Banana became WORSE than Kira (and that's saying something): Marida remaiend as Damaged Goods Moe, which is a bitch-slap to any real abuse victim (same goes for a certain other Zeke whose name I won't reveal yet ;) ); and don't get me started with Audrey...

And so Unicorn became the most disappointing Gundam product since GSD. There, I said it. Now time to prepare myself to be stoned by the UC fanboys. (hides under the table).

The music is great, though :)

We already know how it'll end. But thing is, the ending's being changed a bit, but in the end I think us guys care more about the mobile suits than Banana and his plight to spread pacifism like an idiot. We may be UC faggots, but we do recognise that it's far from perfect in many ways with all the typical gundam tropes in full use here. Oh and UC wasn't used for a good while for any anime or OVA since what? 08th MS Team back in the 90's?

Anyways, we aren't as rabid and defensive as you think.

Meh, I don't care much about the novels.

So far, Unicorn has presented itself as one of the best in the series and while I wouldn't put it on the same level as 0080, I like Unicorn a lot. The production and direction is superb, Furuhashi really knows how to make it feel cinematic in combination with the amazing soundtrack, and each episode kind of feels like its own little movie. I also like how it balances the spectacle with a lot of dialogue (Cardeas farewell to Banagher, Zinnerman talk with Banagher in the desert) and world-building (Marida church speech, coffee-scene) which is all still kept interesting. The mech porn of course is just as great.

Unicorn is an ode to the U.C. and a wave to its fans that they have not been forgotten after all this years. It's one of the better renditions of the Gundam formula in my opinion.

That's my reason for watching MSGUC too: the MS porn, lol. Nothing more, nothing else. The characters suck and the story is a rip-off of many sources which I've already mentioned.

And UC HAS been used for the last eleven years: only that in different universes. You know why 00 S2 sucked? Because they started invoking all of these stupid UC tropes and references ("Oh look, the masked man rival! Oh look, the whiny student who becomes a pilot! Oh look, the oppressive elite task force that murders people for the lulz! Oh look, the noble Mary Sue terrorist group that resists said elite task force!" I could go on forever, you know?)

As for animation, I've seen better in the Rebuild of Eva movies.

But Gundam's all about mecha porn, in the end, so there's no need to start a debate. I don't know why I even started it! (facepalm)

Probably a miscommunication what you were saying there, yes, UC tropes are abused by alternate timelines as stated, but those are different timelines, there hadn't been an anime or OVA set in the Universal Century timeline for a long time. To be honest they should of focused on expanding the timelines Sunrise created in the 1990's.

Every Gundam timeline uses U.C. themes, the biggest one being learning to understand one another. It’s hardly anything new. The sentiment that was being expressed is that there have been no universal century Gundam titles that have been animated since the 08th mobile suit team the only love U.C. has received in recent years (before unicorn)have been manga side stories and video games

I actually got what you were referring too, but I took opportunity to express what I thought about the abuse you mentioned.

And IMHO, the manga side stories and video games were for U.C. to "feel loved". I think UC should be left in the past, and Sunrise should come up with more originality (and not just introduce stuff from other studios ¬¬), by coming up with new concepts and settings (AGE tries to do this, but fails due to fan pressure). Mars waited for thirty years (Oldsmobile Army doesn't count: it was a joke), Jupiter was underused (that particular side-story was excellent). Newtypes (and Innovators and X-Rounders and all of that crap) should either be used as they were in X, or be given some kind of genetic twist (a lá SEED). Or not include "super-human-espers" at all.

Or, if the fans are sooo butthurt that UC is left behind, then they should skip 300 years into the future and leave the whole Feddie/Zeke conflict behind. Zeon is awesome, sure, but it is dead, and the whole point of Unicorn is to slap that fact in the faces of Zeon fanboys around the world.

You chose to talk to some of Evageeks less arguing types (see Gundam thread). So it's a debate and not an argument and this isn't /m/ so you should be safe. Unless of course Hyper Shinchan was the one talking and not me, he loves arguing.

OKay, yeah, you're right, I shouldn't be so melodramatic lol

It's actually quite an interesting argument/debate. I just said that due to a certain bad experience I had in Mecha Talk.
