Yes, but the idea of a "poem war" combined with the subject matter made it quite  worthy.

I'm not sure if the access to porn really increases the rate of masturbation. I masturbated even more when I was younger before I had a computer. Has anyone considered that the stigma surrounding it might be decreasing and that that might be contributing to a greater admission and discussion of it (if not necessarily a greater rate in general)? In recent years it seems like there are more and more studies about its positive effects, especially the reports about it relieving stress and lowering the risks of prostate cancer in men.

Yes, porn addiction is a real thing, but so is sex addiction which certainly existed before it started being diagnosed. We may all agree that any addiction or obsession is bad, but the thing that makes it bad is when it starts becoming hazardous to yourself and/or those around you in some way. Saying I'm addicted to food when I eat three square meals a day makes no sense, any more than saying I'm addicted to porn/masturbation because I masturbate once a day to relieve stress, help me sleep, etc. makes sense. I remember watching a radio show once where a poor young kid called in scared to death he was addicted to masturbation when he was like 15 and doing it 10 times a week. To me, that's psychological and cultural rather than real addiction. It should also be noted that as our awareness of problems increases, our diagnosing them does too (along with a tendency to over-diagnose).

Yeah, private school was much better. The state payed for it to since they could see I was depressed and acting out because I was not being challenged enough. Problem though with teachers at private schools is some of them try to sway you towards their profession.
I do have one fond / weird memory of public school though. In elementary school I had this one very funny music teacher. One time this girl corrected him in front of the class like a smart ass, so as she was walking back to her seat he stuck his tongue out at her. She turned around when she heard us laugh, but he pulled his tongue back in and acted like nothing happened. He did that three times on the way back to her seat. It was so much fun.

Let me guess. It was a private Catholic school; that explains the weirdness.

Really? I know lots of people who went to catholic schools here and everybody tells me the worst about them. From nuns using slave labour to Father Checho and his Chechistas, and how they flew him out to Spain very much like Clinton did with Aristide, after allegations of abuse during his seminars. And that's just from 2 neighboring catholic schools I know of (that were in my natal town). I went to a catholic college and I can tell quite a few too.

Jimbo wrote:This thread has taken a turn for the unintentionally hilarious. A prose poem war on the subject of masturbation? Wow. Just... yeah.

Unintentional?

You know guys, there was only one poem about masturbation. Shinji Doggy Person's poems were about sword-fighting and my other poem was the inner monologue of a woman giving herself a home abortion. Personally, I'm far more proud of my second impromptu prose poem, the abortion one, and it upsets me that nobody has even noticed it, or, if they have, didn't find it worth commenting about. (Unless Synapsid did, but she wasn't being specific and could just been referring to one or the other or both.)

But yeah, Ironfoot's rant was a bit odd. I usually like odd rants, but this was . . . Definitely odd.
"Now, from Nature we obtain abundant information about ourselves, and precious little about others. About the woman you clasp in your arms, can you say with certainty that she does not feign pleasure? About the woman you mistreat, are you quite sure that from abuse she does not derive some obscure and lascivious satisfaction? Let us confine ourselves to simple evidence: through thoughtfulness, gentleness, concern for the feelings of others we saddle our own pleasure with restrictions, and make this sacrifice to obtain a doubtful result." -The Divine Marquis

I prefer abuse to abuse and lackluster education. Public schools are staffed by incompetent arses who just clock in to get their paycheck and care nothing about their students. I was abused in a public school and probably worse than in a catholic school. It burns me how you always hear about abuse in religious institutions, but when it happens in a state run institution it is usually swept under the carpet. Anyone see a problem there? A hypocrisy or persecution occurring? Very rarely in a public school do you get a teacher who is worth anything.

No, I was just born that way. God made me weird, and thus he was pleased to have made an interesting creation to break the monotony of my boring bloodline.
Thats how I like to think of it anyway.

1. Believe that God made you this or that way
2. Do as you please because 1. allows you to do so
3. If anyone complains, blame God
4. ???
5. PROFIT

EDIT: That's a damn nice way to imply there are no personal responsibilities.

Its a form of altruism. Talk to me in person and you would think I take it too far at times. I'm wishy washy about it.
