I wouldn't put much faith in images from the next episode preview. At least for the first movie (preview of 2.0) they showed stuff that didn't actually happen in the movie.

I was wondering about the same thing.
And I don't see what the spikes in the eye have to do with cheap animation, either.

What I think he was getting at was the fact that sloppy animators just wouldnt give enough of a damn to make a pupil the right shape and as a result, preview trolling occurs. But we're in Rebuild so as much as yes it IS anime and peoples eyes can be messed up in whatever way, In rebuild there would seem to be a purpose for every small detail, so if her eye is different than it was before, it's perfectly safe to assume that it has to do with 2.0 events. Or Anno is trolling.
