2.0 Trailer I can't watch, unsure if dubbed or subbed because Hulu isn't available to me.

Weird trailer with the background music... And whatever that shouting/voices was from that background music at the end.

I wonder why they just couldn't use the original 2.0 Trailer when other countries were able to use one or two of them for festivals and such.

Regardless, it's nice to actually see SOMETHING for 2.0 stateside, but I seriously wonder what they'll do regarding the title of Q. Maybe just leave it as "Q/Quickening" or perhaps Studio Kara decided on their international "Xxx xxx (not) xxxxx." title by now and will let Funimation know early before a public announcement? Or they'll publicly announce the title soon?

The sudden cut out at the end was a bit odd.

I don't think it was entirely awful, but I did nearly laugh out loud at "fighting to save themselves" accompanying a clip of Rei and Asuka having a bitchfight over Shinji. And then Seele00 and I realized that having one's self being completely predicated on Shinji's affections is actually probably a pretty accurate description of 2.0, so good job, trailer.

Also, the extended scene of Mari breathing heavily with her helmet on, because apparently the guy who edited the trailer together didn't feel like looking for any better dramatic or tense moments to include.

Filled with too many spoiler type things for people who haven't watched it in Japanese already.

Same could be said for their Summer Wars trailer but the clips were so out of context you didn't know what on earth was going on so, it worked.

I think any and every one of us with a day and a nice program could have cut together a better trailer, maybe even *gasp* using a song from the film. Fucking shit.

So what if they didnt use the music from the movie. They did the same thing for 1.0's trailer and no one did any bitching about that or at least I dont think anyone did. Not a big deal. But the no dialogue thing is weird though. Maybe we'll get one with dialogue closer to the release date.

The trailer was ridiculous. I laughed out loud at the way they played the slap, and the dubbed-in yell after Mari's breathing would have made me laugh if I weren't so confused.

Yes, the trailer definitely had spoilers. Watching it, I can tell that the Zeruel-ish Angel turns Rei-ish, that the NERV pyramid is obliterated by one energy blast from the Zeruel-ish Angel, and that Unit 01 turns red. Those were three of the most shocking (in a good way) elements for me when I watched the camrip and seeing those out of context beforehand would have ruined that initial feeling.

Well, yeah, watching it as a camrip first may not have been the smartest idea, but it was so exciting watching it as a camrip first that I probably would have passed out had I seen it for the first time in a theater.

So Hulu decided "Hey lets make trailers viewable all over the world!" all of a sudden and now I can watch the trailer.

It's a decent trailer. Lots of crazy going on just like in the movie. I did like the tape player start and it's abrupt end was tape player stop (and I think I heard it rewinding, volume was low).

It's neat.

oh GOD!!! That trailer....funimation what the hell did you guys do? The background music was just atrocious and the editing? Tried to be overdramatic? Cuz the end result failed horribly! Give us a freakin' trailer with dub voices and we'll be happy. Thanks. ;)

Hmm, Mari's panting is actually dubbed. What's more, you can hear a little scream when she's starting up Unit-05. I suppose that it's from another cut, given that she was narrating Unit-05's activation instead of yelling. I wonder if that's her actual dub voice, or did they just ask ome random female employee to pant and scream a little as a placeholder.

Of course they would of finished the sub. They seem to translate the Japanese part first THEN dub it. (well, duh).

Seeing as they're finished with the dub and the screenings are less than a month away. This is probably not a case of they haven't finished the subs yet.

This is pretty much what all Funimation trailers are like. Most lacking of dialogue which is in the show.

Sorry I meant dub, not sub. No idea why i put sub.

Either way, if this is the format for Funi trailers normally then fair enough.

Im still approaching the treatment in the dub with some trepidation that Funi will stuff it up - i.e. Mari gets a ridiculous accent, they make Kaji sound like an uber-relaxed surfer dood, Grant turns everything up to 11 and Asuka sounds like a cross between Lucy from Peanuts and Violet Elizabeth Bott, Spencer buggers up the final scene by drowning out 'Tsubasa...' too much and/or by not yet learning how to scream without it sounding silly or finally (and i believe this is a particular party trick of US anime dubs) play narration or other speech over quiet/silent scenes.

I dont want them to stuff it up, I actually like the dub of 1.0 but i cant say im not a bit worried. But that said I like to think that if they nail it, 2.0 could be this generation's Akira for the english-speaking world or do something equivalent to 'Spirited Away'. Maybe thats overdoing it, but we can dream :D

It looked fine to me. It's pretty much like all Funimation trailers. I think you guys don't watch enough anime trailers. Or trailers in general. They're meant to entice the audience.
NGE was a damned good anime
EoE was an anime masterpiece
And Rebuild is nothing short of epic
Long live the EVAs!!

I was waiting for something like that regarding my last post

Ive only been aware of the show for a couple of months, pardon my (over)-enthusiasm. Its just nice not to be the cynical old fart about something for a change :D

And anyway - im talking about the show standing up to those other two in terms of quality. Im talking its intrusion into the consciousness of the wider public, not just the anime geeks.

Let me put it this way, Spirited Away (along with a few other Ghiblis) and Akira have both been shown on UK non-specialised TV and few other anime films have, i can imagine 2.0 appearing on at least Film Four, if not Channel 4.

Evangelion as a franchise is BIG but Rebuild in particular is not quite Academy Award winning, Disney backed or legendary animated feature status in the west big.
