It took everything I had not try to catch one while swimming near one in its nest with my dog while feeding and agitating it and encouraging others to feed the free-ranging ones while observing form a very close distance.

You'd have to have lived in an area where the gator population is large enough that seeing them on a regular basis, even in metro areas in cities, is unfazing (like in most parts of Florida). It's actually a very cogent concern, but it still sounds funny in a "common sense" way. Just file it under the same file that holds the "Contents are Hot" warning on coffee lids.

yeah, you'd be surprised

some people, and when I mean people I mean mainly drunk frat boys on Mardi Gras or Spring Break and of course poachers, will take a gator (usually a baby because it's easy to move around and put into a container) from a swamp or some marshy wetland and either sell it and ship it to some poor sap to either have it kept as a pet or turned into clothing or food or take it as the ultimate souvenir from Florida, Louisiana, etc.

hit up :google:, there are news stories about in this wheels-off, non-native places like Ohio, Missouri, Texas, Kansas, etc., where gators show up and no one has a clue

P.S. For those wanting to discuss a matter with yours truly not pertaining to the general topic at hand, PM me. Please and thank you.
