My entry was a little weird.

I watched the series on tape back in...geez, 2002 or so, I think. I don't remember how I saw EoE; I know I saw it at some point, but I can't remember how. Anyway, I did some research on the 'net, saw some of Anno's commentary, and said "oh, okay, that makes sense" and let it go at that. All was well.

I wound up getting the soundtrack at the time (the first one), and a couple years ago I got the Fraulein Rei Revoltech figure (I don't really like Rei, but it's a striking figure and she's made for that sort of thing; oddly, even though I'm much more partial to Asuka as a character, her figure does absolutely nothing for me), but I had no contact with Eva apart from that.

A few months ago I started reading Gregg Landsman's Nobody Dies fanfic. This reminded me that I had yet to see the Rebuild movies, so I watched those. These got me to thinking about the series again, and I realized I might get a lot more out of it than I thought. So I tracked down the DVDs.

And then I got the EoE and Rebuild DVDs.

And then I got the Angelic Days and ISRP mangas.

And then I found Re-Take and The Second Try.

And then I got the NGE manga.

And then I found Orchestrating the Silence.

And then I got the Revoltech figures for Unit 01 and Asuka (because, even if I'm not wild about the figure, it's Asuka, damn it).

And then I got the Newtype book, and Der Mond and Die Sterne, and the Groundwork of Evangelion books.

And then I got all the soundtracks, and soundtracks for Death, and EoE, and Refrain, and S2 Works.

And now I'm looking back at the last couple of months and going "wait, what just happened?" I blew off NGE for 15 years and now I'm a hardcore fanboy. I think I'm doing it wrong. Or just making up for lost time. Or something.

But damn if it isn't fun.

I saw that one promo picture that showed Eva-01 standing in front of that flying angel, you know the picture, I know you do. Anyways, after that, I immediately wanted to see the show, and ended up actually watching EoE years before I saw the series itself.

While i don't recall the exact dates, I remember seeing it on the SciFi channel several years ago (between 2000-2001 I think). It was episode 23 and while I obviously didn't fully understand it, I found it entertaining.

A few years later, I noticed that the Australian Boxset was encoded for regions 4 and 2 so naturally I scooped it up (the DVDs weren't out in the UK at the time if I recall correctly). Loved it and continue to love it to this day.

Watched it all online last year. I had always kinda known about it, but I never felt like getting into it until I gave the first episode a chance and it surprised the hell out of me obviously. I've been kind of obsessed with it ever since. I even made Alisa in Tekken 6 look just like Rei, cuz it actually worked and was pretty easy haha. It's kind of a way to compensate for the fact that I'll probly never be able to get any of the games (don't have a psp don't speak Japanese don't have a modded ps2 etc).

And yes, I know I'm a cheap bastard. But I'm not gonna drive all the way out to the mall to buy a box set that I can't afford anyway. I might just go to CD Warehouse, they ended up having just one disc from the platinum collection last time I went there, but I thought whats the point of having just 4 episodes, so I bought a 4 episode disc of Samurai Champloo instead hahah.

my parents and i ran an anime club a few years ago called Miso. we showed it there, one of the officers of the club LOVED it. but my mom was frequently dragged around being asked questions and having to talk to kid's parents about "inappropriate" material we showed during the AMVS before the series so she never saw all of it. my dad did but he hated the ending. i was hanging out with my ex (who wasn't my ex at the time) and he would walk around outside with his friends while Eva was being shown, so i went with him. i regret that now. but since my mom got the Platinum boxset, and it's been sitting on our anime shelves for a WHILE now i finally decided to watch it. i think one thing that made me want to is that i had a friend who adored it, and she passed away in April of this year. i wish now that i could have been smart enough to sit down, shut up, and watch when we played it at Miso. but better late than never, right? i'm also glad i got to watch most of it with my boyfriend this time, i've gotten him hooked, too, so i'm proud of myself. >3

Nice lilim! I wish I had friends or parents or, knew anyone outside of this site that likes this series more than just "Yea, I've heard of it, that shows awesome. Now let me never watch it and make fun of you for watching it."

aww, i'm sorry! have you tried looking for anime clubs near where you live? if it weren't for the fact that my parents liked anime before i was even a thought in their minds, i'd have the same problem, i'm sure. i live in a tiny boring town that can't even keep a comic shop alive for more than a year or two. >_>; even that place was in the next town over, actually.
it seems like sometimes being an anime fan has a lot to do with location.. o.O sometimes you're just screwed when it comes to finding people who *get* your obsession. especially if it's Eva obsession. but on the other hand if you do manage to find one, there are usually more where they came from. it can be quite infectious!

I had first heard of the Eva series in 1998 (I was 8 at the time). There was an ad for it on the back of a Pokemon manga I was reading. I still remember the picture the ad had on it (here - I always thought Asuka's legs looked insanely long in that pic, too...). The art interested me greatly, but being 8 years old, I didn't know where to find much manga besides Pokemon (probably better I didn't, not sure I'd understand Eva then...xD)

Then, in 2004, my ex boyfriend talked about Eva a lot, being a big fan. It was funny, his friends compared me to Rei (for being quiet) and my friend to Asuka (for being loud and brash)... so that's what they called us. I watched an episode of Eva then, and watched the Redeath AMV (looove that AMV), but that's as far as I got into the fandom at that point.

In late 2009, I decided to give Eva an official go. I watched almost non-stop, and have been hooked since then, absorbing everything Eva. xD Maybe it's me making up for not becoming a fan way back when...

I definitely agree. I live in Lancaster, PA. (Yea, with the amish people. No, i am not amish, not at all.) I went to a club called COVA a few times (Club for the viewing of animation) but usually they watch really weird stuff like Teeth (well, apparently it was like that movie Teeth, but it was an anime... I don't get it) and then most of them just make out under the seats XP.

It was cool because they showed everything on a huge projection screen. So I brought in my Cowboy Bebop box-set a few times and I went for Metropolis but that was about it.

our anime club had a projection screen too, we actually used one of the auditoriums at South Alabama. my mom went there in college and then when she had the idea for miso, we looked around at libraries and things and eventually she decided it could be awesome there. so she actually talked the school into letting us meet there every Saturday even though none of us were students there. xD

and wow. that's. wow. we did have people making out in the cars in the parking lot outside, but fortunately it never moved to under the seats inside >_> have you ever thought about starting your own?

I did but it was a school club and i think the teachers were freaked out about it enough, the art teacher was the only one willing to host it hah. And even he didn't like the *ahem* "moments of fan service." Plus I just graduated so i dont think im allowed there anymore hah.

I think the one good thing about living in podunk PA is that any anime at the stores is wildly not-in-demand, so it's pretty cheap. The down side? They keep the anime next to the porn.. -.- Feels so awkward when I go there haha.

One of the stores near me is going out of business tho, so I actually just bought Disc 2 of the platinum edition for like 6 bucks today. Pretty good imo for five episodes that include Rei II and Asuka strikes and Dance Dance Revolution: Evangelion Remix! (you know what i mean)

I first saw Eva some time in the early 2000s (I forget what year >.<) when Toonami aired the first episode as part of Giant Robot Week. Truthfully, I didn't like it then. I got the impression that it was a parody of giant robot shows, and I thought Eva 01's design was just stupid.

Later that year, I got to see the rest of the series at my cousin's house on VHS, and I was hooked. It had me at "Asuka Strikes!" XD
