...because the record label still gets money from any of their past albums being sold. Creed probably doesn't care but the label that owns their music still does.

The former members of Creed still get royalties as well, and will be for the forseeable future so long as someone keeps buying their records.

It is a little concerning but instead of getting pissed at the bands, get pissed at the record label of those bands. They are the ones requesting this and not necessarily the bands themselves.

I don't necessarily buy this, because if you look up Wind-Up Records, they have more bands on their label than these three. If it was just the label, then they would have asked for all their label artists to be pulled.

The Free Culture blog has a better-written piece on the situation:

I was thinking the EFF might want to get involved with this as well, but then I remembered that there's basically no legal leg for them to stand on here, unfortunately. It's good to see that there's attention being paid to the situation, though, from the Free Culture/Creative Commons people.

If it's only those three, the world won't be missing much.

Yeah, "Bring Me To Life" only accounts for 1/5 of all AMVs out there >.>

It's true, really!

I've watched 100's of AMV's with that song thus far... 1 or maybe 2 were decent.

Very interesting article. I found the comment about sending in AMVs as supplemental college application material great.

I also love this paragraph...

But perhaps a beginning would be a question that one might imagine asking the lawyer, or better, the chief executive, at Wind Up Records: “Now that you’ve succeeded in stopping thousands of kids from spending hundreds of thousands of hours to make fantastically creative content that promotes your work for free, do you really expect to sell more records next year?”

It's great to see that Larry Lessig is paying attention to this issue -- he's about the most well-known, eloquent, and respected intellectual property lawyer out there, and the Financial Times is of course a paper with some clout.
