Currently, they're producing Diebuster, which is getting quite good. They may or may not be working on Bushilord, depending on whether or not the project still exists. It's kind of like big foot. They're involved in something called Wonderful Days, but I don't know much about that. They recently finished He Is My Master, a rather horrendous anime I'm choking down for the sake of education. Aside from that, Gainax appears to be inbetween major projects at the moment.

I didn't know much about it, I only knew it was dated 2005, so it was likely still in transit between Japan and the rest of the world. It looks like it's dated July 2005. Gainax didn't do anything more than Dub it into Japanese. It was produced entirely in Korea, and apparently is known as "Sky Blue" in English. Doesn't make much sense, it has an English title. Or did the Japanese re-title it? I'm confused.

Not available on DVD in the US yet, though maybe elsewhere. Is entirely Korean in production. Called "Wonderful Days" in about half the Western world.

As Sky Blue, came around the local arthouse cinema last September, and the DVD was on the shelf in the local branch of Forbidden Planet today.

It's about two sisters, Itsumi(14) and Mitsuki(13) who leave home because their parents won't let them keep their pet alligator Pochi. Said alligator likes to tear off Itsumi's clothes whenever she wears something that is revealing or cute. So these two girls leave home and end up working as maids for an orphaned millionaire who is as old as they are. And then there is a lesbian girl who is obsessed with Itsumi. The show is mostly about the 14 year old Itsumi who has abnormally large breast being chased by a perverted middle school boy, an alligator, and a middle school age lesbien girl. In a word, it is "crap". If you get off on middle school kids with large breasts, you'll have an orgasm, if you're a normal fucking human being, you'll wonder what in the hell is wrong with Japan, and why they haven't destroyed themselves yet.

I saw the first couple of episodes of Diebuster at my anime club a couple of days ago, and it's... different. The plot is harder to follow than a Metal Gear Solid game. Still, there's a lot of fanservice, so I'll try it some more and see where this goes. 8)

Yeah it certainly gave me some ideas for some things that I might use in one of my stories.

It's the dork fantasy Looooooooliiiiiiiicoooooooonnnnnnn anime! I only watched the first episode, didnt really have the patience to use my questionable bandwidth on finding the rest of it. Definatly the worst thing Gainax made.

I'm sorry but I enjoyed Goshuujin a lot more than I did Diebuster. At least it doesn't pretend to me more than an ecchi maid-anime. But Diebuster has all those pretentions and just sucks: lolicon, dumb robot girl, princesses and magical girl transformations. Coach would be rolling in his grave if he knew. Flashy explosions + involvement from the Gainax gang (meaning guys like Anno), doesn't necessarily mean the show will be good.

This is the same Japan that gave us EVANGELION—a show which, of course, would never use a 14 year-old girl as a sex object. I agree with AchtungAffen on preferring MASTER over DIEBUSTER. It's not that DIEBUSTER would be so bad in of itself, but it's Gainax's first remake, which I regard as a bad sign—they should be moving forward, not backward. MASTER is cheap and dirty, but DIEBUSTER is giving their full resources to a kind of counterfeit of themselves. I mean, when Miyazaki was Anno's age, he had only gotten as far as CASTLE IN THE SKY, which wasn't even a hit--so it's not like they're too old to set the world on fire again.

I am sympathetic to the desire to keep a more stable cash flow through making "ordinary" anime, but I expect surprises, too. EVA was a surprise; KAREKANO was a surprise; FLCL was—even EBICHU was in its own way. And none of those four were imitations of the other. It's been five years since they've hit us upside the head with a baseball bat like that.

Well I liked diebuster despite any flaws it might have, I think it's plot, characters and directing style are all pretty good. But I do agree its worrying that their moving towards making sequals when they should be making new stuff (good new stuff). There's also that rumor about the eva prequal too, wonder if theres any truth to that.

I thought everything before Abenobashi was reallygood, after that it had some mixed results with some good things like Melody of oblivion, but also some not so good things like mahoromatic and kono minikuku.
