Saw this movie today on dvd.

It was quite good truth be told. I like the fact that there was some irony ( and other elements) to the movie. Like the fact that classical music was played , like AIR ( which we know from EoE), while people are getting killed.

Has anyone lese seen this film, or even its sequel, and what did you think of it.

I also got it on DVD, I like it - Chiefen have read the book, I want to read the book... I've read a few volumes of the manga too, or well - 5 or something.

And the sequel is rotten arse shit.

Isn't Asuka's voice actor in it or something?

I know nothing about movies.

Yes, she's the presenter in the orientation video towards the beginning of the film. Once you realize that it's Asuka, it becomes somehow even more disturbing...

I fucking love Battle Royale. It is one intense adrenaline pumped thrill ride courtesy of one Mr. Kinji Fukasaku, who is my personal favorite director to come from Japan. Fukasaku created 40+ years of highly entertaining films and Battle Royale is perhaps the most entertaining of all of them. It's just a grand, grand piece of explosively violent cinema in every way.

One sad trend though, I've noticed among anime fans and such, is that they tend to just watch Battle Royale and dismiss the rest of Kinji's films. That is a huge, huge mistake. I highly recommend you guys check out such films as Battles Without Honor and Humanity, Under the Flag of the Rising Sun, The Yagyu Clan Conspiracy, etc after you watch Battle Royale. The man directed films in just about every genre (he even made a musical called Shanghai Rhapsody). I'm currently working on a website dedicated to the director.

Ohhhh... you talking about the Japanese Asuka voice actor.

*Gets back on track*

That is disturbing having the Asuka voice actress as the presenter in the orientation video.

The first was amazing... the second began as acceptable at best, and finished quite awful...

Battle Royale 2: Requiem is a mess of a film. It's a fairly fun mess though.

The only bit I've seen of BR is a bit from the manga where some woman is raping a woulded man to death. That was a bit fucked up.

Well, one...The movie wasn't that great, or groundbreaking, the BOOK was. And Requiem wasn't all that bad. The manga is BETTER than the movie. The reason it wasnt' that great, was because they didnt' explain anything, it was way to fast paced. The reason for the whold BR project wasn't explained that well, and you never got a chance to get attached to any of the characters.

But the book is a must read.

I've read the book, and seen the first and second movie (in that order). The book was one of the fastest reads I've ever had of something its size. I just could not stop tearing through it. Amazing. I highly recommend it, and will buy anything else that author writes and subsequently gets translated.

I thought the film did a pretty good job of adapting the novel. I like the film, but I'm not incredibly in love with the actor (Tatsuya Fujiwara) that played Shuya (I thought he was sort of spineless, and the character in the book was not, but perhaps that was a directorial choice).

Of course, it was a tragedy that the director of the first movie, Kinji Fukasaka, died before the second was made, which many people attribute the downfall of BRII to be. I thought the second story was really weak, and a bit didactic (not that there is anything wrong with that...).
Done. Guarding.

I'm with penis.

Also, I agree with Space Penis.

Sorry for the necromancy, but an outfit called Anchor Bay acquired the rights to distribute both BR movies in the US in the near future.
