During the end of 2.0 we saw the trailer of 3.0 Q!
we are shown that there will be an 8th evangelion unit, which we can assume that there will also be a 7th.

Misato during the preview for 3.0 says "the awakening of unit 08 and it's pilot."

With that quote we aren't told weather or not the pilot is a new one or not so id assume the "awakening" pilot would be Rei since she was dormant "trapped" in unit 01 at the end of the movie.

so can we safely assume that Mari and Rei will be getting new eva's since their original ones were destroyed? and Touji has also been left out this time so what of this?


What also baffles me is that Kaworu pierced straight through the core of Unit 01, which would have (in the original and possibly rebuild) killed Unit 01. So if unit 01 is Unusable due to the lack of an intact core does that mean he will pilot unit 07 or 08 or possibly even a unit 09?

Would there will be a possibility that Unit 07 have the same fate as Unit 04 ?
Sounds impossible...but this is my guess...

For Unit 08, Mari I think... Since Asuka desired unit 02 so much.

Remember that Unit 01 apparently had two cores at this point. We don't know which one got hit, or who was in it at the time.

Speculation at this point seems fruitless only because 3.0/4.0 is going to be Anno's new plot twist ending.

Good theory, I don't think Gendo will allow Ritsuko potentially tamper with the power source of Yui.

anyway, did anyone expected that new characters will come to Eva and be the pilot? probably nobody want it to happen

i doubt that more than 6 pilots are needed.

if they reintroduce Touji as a pilot though I doubt people would conplain.

It doesn't. And it's always possible one of the current pilots could have Eva-08 (or the unmentioned in Preview, Eva-07).

Those numbers correspond to the Unit the pilot is supposed to be piloting. Unless Rei is the zero-eth Children (or Girl in Rebuild).

Also, i'm on the opinion that adding new pilots to the mix, or bringing in Touji at this point would be catasthropically bad decisions.

The numbers on the plugsuits don't correspond to Marduk designations. Rei's suit says "00" and Shinji's says "01". Asuka's is the only one that corresponds, since it says "02". Clearly, the general rule of thumb here is that the numbers on the plugsuit correspond to the Eva being piloted.

I'm guessing Mari's "05" is a holdover from her piloting Eva-05. The pink suit may have already been crafted before Eva-05 was destroyed. I think Kaji mentions at the beginning of the film, when Mari is whining about the green suit not accommodating her bosom, that the new supplies haven't arrived yet.

Kaworu's "06" would refer to the Mark-06.

Mari and Kaworu's Marduk designations, if any, remain unknown.

you never know it might not be touji but maybe another overseas pilot like mari.
