Did I mention I plan to sing in this? My impersonations of Roger and David are both quite accomplished, if I may say so myself.

Ok that works! Now all we need are Mason and Wright! Any other forum goers who know how to handle a guitar, bass and drum set and want to take a part in otaku history?

Getting Wright will be impossible because he's already, y'know, dead.

Didn't mean it literally, just that I'm hoping we can find some people who can match their sound unless we can some how find some voodoo that can resurrect them as zombie rockers...... now that would be kick-awesome!

I have spent hours and hours trying to replicate DG's Wall-era guitar tone, and I think I have pretty much got it. My favorite things to do are the long delay/echo parts like on Another Brick and on Run Like Hell as well as the solos on Mother and Comfortably Numb. I'm glad to see someone other than myself thinking about the similarities between The Wall and Eva.

Coolness AVman9! Any chance you get upload a sample of your work for Sharaz Destler, maybe an excerpt from from the Run Like Hell or Comfortably Numb?

I'll have to get some recording equipment back from a friend of mine, because I'm pretty sure my laptop's mic will sound like crap. As soon as I do I will get to the recording.

Indeed. Honestly, I'm amazed by all the enthusiasm for this thing. I'm really, really happy that this thing is starting to pick up some steam.

You know what we need, before anyone does anything? STORYBOARDS, especially for The Trial. I should start working on them as soon as I get a moment to sit down, pick up a drawing pad and start hacking away at it.

I also got another research book about anime that gave me a few ideas for this thing. I don't have the title handy, but I'll post it as soon as I have it.

Well I got my little mixer and my mics back, but I found out my computer only has a "Mic" in port, not a stereo line-in, which is what I need. So here's a sample of the first Comfortably Numb solo through the mic port. Sorry for the poor quality recording.

Here's the short intro to Run Like Hell. Once again my apologies for the poor quality sound. I really need to get an audio interface for my computer or something.

I also panned the tracks so it sounds less "mono."

I wish I had the time to play my guitar. I'm learning chord sequences, but it's kinda slow going, especially now that I have night classes. It's a bit harder for me as I'm left handed. That means I have to transpose the chords in my head as I learn them. One shortcut I've developed involves taking a blue Sharpie to the neck of the guitar and marking every four frets--fourth fret=first blue dot; eighth fret=second blue dot, and so on. I'm of a mind to do this with other colors...green for third fret, and red for fifth fret. Doing this for every two frets would be redundant.

I expect barre chords are easier to play for the "electric" style of guitaring?

ALSO:

I have the title of the book for all to see. It's called Anime: From Akira to Princess Mononoke, and it's written by Susan Jollife Napier. Goes into a LOT of detail about Evangelion, and it's also helped me come up with more than a few ideas for this thing.

RE: AVman9

I have a sheet music book for Pink Floyd The Wall at home. I can just about do the openings of "In the Flesh" and "Empty Spaces", but I find most of it indecipherable, especially where (I think it's) chord changes are concerned. Got to pull out my Esteban DVDs and go over chords.

One more thing: I plan to use a CD called The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra Plays the Hits of Pink Floyd as click-tracks during the show, especially because this CD contains orchestration for "In the Flesh, Part II."

Very nice, surprised the "echo" effect came out so well with such a limited audio input. Looks like this may come out by 2015 yet!

You are thinking waaaay too hard for playing PF. I'm not a very good musician (I honestly can't read music), and I have figured most of the Wall stuff out by ear. Don't worry too much about the technical mumbo-jumbo, because DG isn't the most technical of players. He's all about emotion, and that's what makes him stand out. Most of his solos follow the pentatonic scales or variations thereof, but he does very unique bends, fretslides, and things of that nature to add nuances to simple notes.

Also, since The Wall is an "Opera," riffs repeat throughout the entire album, so you can learn the album in larger chunks.

Regarding "strange" chords: weird chords feel weird no matter what type of guitar you play them on. Try some older Rush stuff and you'll see what I mean. It's all about practice and more practice!

PS: Try listening to the live Wall album (called "Is there anybody out there"). The guitar parts are much more pronounced and easier to hear. It helped me a lot.

PPS: Good backing tracks for many PF songs http://www.gilmourish.com/?page_id=64

Oh, I know. It's just a hard habit to break after having four straight years of Concert Choir in high school where we had to do just that. Only problem is, it'll be five years since I graduated (class of '05) and I've since forgotten most of my music theory. I'll soon recover it if I think about it.

I had a brainwave over the weekend. It involves a lyrics change for "The Trial."

YUI:

Come to Mother, baby, let me
Hold you in my arms!
M'Lud I never meant to cause him
Any kind of trouble
Why'd I ever have to leave him?

Worm, your Honor, let me take him home!

The reason is, after being assaulted by Gendo and Asuka, Shinji imagines his "ideal dream mother" coming along and finally accepting him/loving him. Of course, it's only an ideal, and she slips away from him just as easily.

Anywho seems good so far, if you can try and get a whole modified song up soon so we can see what we are working with.
