Whoa whoa I didn't read it yet! I meant the last post as a tease! Relax man I have high expectations but I voice criticisms (if you desire them) constructively. Never will you see the above meant as a seriously. Your post simply reminded me of how you way back then promised apocalypse, and my excitment! I wanted to see what chaos you could dredge up, and although I will either get satisfied, disappointed, or impressed, this does not detract from the effort you yourself have placed into the fiction. Despite having such an "intellectual" fanbase, I have found the quality of Evangelion fanfiction really disappointing. So I am going out on a limb and asking for recommendations.

So I'm curious if anyone has any fics that go around these lines:

- One-shots (I'm actually not a big fan of multi-chapter fics)
- I like shipping fics, preferably Shinji/Kaworu or Gendou/Yui (I can't find any of these at all...), but if it's good, I'll read it
- Crazily enough, no porn with kids, but it's ok with adults...
- Post-3I fics are always nice
- "Nice writing" (whatever that is supposed to mean to you

Anyone?

Dropping the post-3I nice-if and the shipping then Misato's Predicament.

Recommendations almost inevitably tend to be of long works -- from TOILI or HERZ at one end to Shin Kakumei Evangelion or NXE at the other.

Gendo/Misato ditto. You have to go to doujins for that sort of thing -- English language fanfics seem to stick with teen romance when doing pairings.

Most of my likes fall into the action side of things rather than romance, as anyone (of the three) of you who reads But Loyal to Their Own could probably guess.

I'll second NXE, and throw in Shinji and WH40k, Higher Learning, and Children of an Elder God for the above criteria, with Sic Semper Morituri getting a nod if you like really long works.

As for shorter stuff, there's a couple of collected short stores over on Darkscribes in the bookshelf section that are well worth a look, though again most of the romance is among the pilots.

I wonder about that, now that you mention it. Eva has a reputation for being opaque to the point of incomprehensible, so I would think that would keep off most of the teenage crowd who would naturally write teen romance. You'd think there would be more exploration of the older cast members in that case.

I read all of the above stuff, and I really don't enjoy it. I really don't have any tolerance for action-adventury stuff at all, and plainly, I find the prose to be incredibly uninteresting in itself, regardless of subject matter.

I was really hoping that I'd find something I'd enjoy reading - like I'd get the feeling "wow, I liked that and it was worth my time." I've had tons of success with this in Star Trek and my preferred Marvel Comics and even Metal Gear Solid, so why not here? Although I do find myself reading things that I find stupid just because they have the right character's names in them, I think it's even too hard to do that for NGE fic.

Hmm. Well, it doesn't fit all your preferences, but I'm going to go and recommend Orchestrating the Silence, which I've been recommending to basically everyone for the past couple weeks since I read it. It's not a one-shot, but it's a shipping fic (not either of the pairings you suggested, though), it's a post-3I fic (by far the best post-3I fanfic I've ever read), and the writing is phenomenal. I honestly can't recommend it highly enough. I went into more detail about why I love it so much in a recent post in the "Fanfiction Survey" thread in this same subforum.

if ur looking for Gendo/Yui, I recommend "pages" by lara bartram. That is, if you can find it. It's a very old fic, but a pretty good read.

The title is the gist of the story - one page is a chapter in how they get together (it's a bit weird reading about a somewhat kinder, less bastard Gendo, but it's nice)

I'd recommend Lavanya Six's "Taking Sights," which is one of the best Eva fics I've read -- and I've been reading Evangelion fanfiction since 2002/2003 -- and the only one I still bother to keep up with. Summary: "AU. After Third Impact, Gendo Ikari gets his own chance to go back and change things for the better. But things do not go as planned this time around, either."

This goes against your request against multi-part fics, but I've found Children of An Elder God to be the best I've found to date. Has a fair splash of Lovecraft in it, so if that's not your bag, it might not be for you. Still worth a shot, though.

Well if chaosakita has got their recomendations and dont mind me, I'd like to get some recomendations too. I’d like something along these lines
-prefer pre-T3, but it don’t matter too much
-Shinji/Asuka shipping (of course (doesn’t have to be blatant, but defiantly their))
-multi-chapter, at least 5
-has to be done, or at the very least, have been updated within this year (getting sick of reading good fics only to stop halfway and realize that its not done and hasn’t been updated in the last 2 years…makes me a sad panda.)
-should have a decent amount of humor in it, no blatantly depressing fics, if I wanted to be sad, I’d watch the last 5 something episodes of the series. (I’m pretty sure someone has said something along that line before, so I’m giving credit where its due, just don’t remember their name).
I’ve already read a few fics and liked em, Whipped by Fresh C, Everyday by wonga316, Once More with Feeling by Crazy-88. Those are just a few that I like, but of course, arnt finished.

Eric Blair has a bunch of stories that might fit your criteria. "Cliches" and "10 things I hate about Eva" are goofy but amusing multi-chapter romance/humor fics. "Love and Hate" and "30 Kisses, 30 Ways" are series of waffy Asuka/Shinji one-shots. I'd consider "The Last Test" to be the best story he's written to date, and it's what I'd ordinarily be recommending, but you specified humor and multiple chapters...It's only one chapter, but it's 23,000 words. I should note that The Last Test is quite angsty, but it does have a nice happy/optimistic ending.

And while it's not pre-3I, I can't end this post without suggesting SerialRavist's Orchestrating the Silence again, for the second time in this thread. (But this time to you, specifically!) It, too, has got its fair share of angst, but it ends very optimistically and there's some dry humor to it at times. Not many outright comedic situations that I remember offhand, but the way certain things are described by the characters made me laugh, at least. Maybe I'm just weird! Regardless, though, if you like Asuka/Shinji pairings I'd definitely check it out. The characterization is superb and it really gets you inside their heads.
