Sleeping+/ Naked Beauties
Protagonist opens a chamber/pod/box, or simply stumbles upon-
a (sometimes) sleeping, (sometimes) naked, (but always) vulnerable and mysterious stranger-
who inevitably becomes a love interest...
I was just wondering- exactly how common is this plot device?
Naked, sleeping beauties have been spotted in such aojos as:
Outlaw Star and Chobits
Sleeping beauties:
Elemental Gelade and TTGL
Naked beauties:
Elfen Lied and DearS
All female...are there no male precedents?
Obama is not a precedent :]

I can think of a number of aged male corpses thus discovered --
Planetes, episode 1
GitS : the episode ¥€$
I have a vague memory of something in one of the Dirty Pair OAVs where a male and a female (a new Adam and Eve) were found -- Dirty Pair TV seems a plausible place to discover hunks in trunks, but I've only watched a few episodes.

Does Muraki lying (presumably) dead in the Tarot Curse arc of Yami no Matsuei count (he's certainly beautiful and mysterious, but no one with any amount of sense would call him vulnerable...)?

I've seen so many changeful years, / to Earth I am a stranger grown: / I wander in the ways of men, / alike unknowing and unknown: / Unheard, unpitied, unrelieved, / I bear alone my load of care; / For silent, low, on beds of dust, / Lie all that would my sorrows share. - Robert Burns' Lament for James

Sleeping (but not naked) Nia in a box in TTGL.
Awesomely Shitty

-On EMF, as a thread becomes longer, the likelihood that fem-Kaworu will be mentioned increases exponentially.
-the only English language novel actually being developed in parallel to its Japanese version involving a pan-human Soviet in a galactic struggle to survive and to export the communist utopia/revolution to all the down trodden alien class and race- one of the premise being that Khrushchev remains and has abandoned Lysenko stupidity

@Tines: Nice, I see what you did there-
Dead (sleeping) male is found in casket (chamber) and becomes an interest of Ai's (Love).
However, this occurs episode 3, not 1. Your win is nullified.
@Brik: I expected better from you. Am I really ignored so easily? :[
@Gentlemen: Come on people, I just pointed you all toward Outlaw Star; you can see a naked, sleeping beauty there.
So long as you don't watch it on Cartoon Network, apparently:
Censorship rules.
I just remembered two extra precedents:
NB= Metropolis
SB= Origin: Spirits of the Past
I guess the device isn't as common as I thought then...

The '80s were a wonderful time for anime, weren't they?
^ the 80's were fantastic. Sad part was that MD Geist's sequel had just as shoddy production values despite being made 10 years later.
Now that I think about it, Battle Angel Alita sorta fits in the "sleeping naked beauty", though she's missing more than her clothes, and she's more like 'deactivated' than just 'sleeping'. But hell, if Melfina counts, then Alita should.
