Original '95 roar at approximately 1:10.

Now I heard EVA-01's roar in the 1.0 dub trailer, and the roar sounds a little more like a generic animal. What do you think? Does the roar still have its old appeal of sounding otherworldly?
Haunted dolls? If Rozen Maiden ever taught us anything it would be to look under it's dress.

All I have to say is that the Japanese didn't think about what they were doing when they put various roars on the dialogue track, rather than the music and effects track where they belong.

Discussing Eva roars... shiiii...

I thought it sounded amazing!

It sounded differently then when we watched it at Otakon on that GIANT movie theater screen.

When I saw it Im pretty sure it was in Imax. But I must say, the Japanese roar sounded like a windows xp being raped. The dub seemed pretty good in my opinion because it had a little bit of machine and the other bit was just straightup gruesome. In a good way, it sent shivers down my spine to really get a good feel on the animalistic side of Eva.

Its interesting you know. At first i thought i would be pretty pissed off at Funimation for editing the Unit 01 roar. Like what ADV did with that horrendous version of their roar in their NGE english dub.

But for some reason....Funimation dub's version was actually done fairly well. Now that i compare the two the Japanese dub version of Unit 01's roar sounded like some retarded fool charging in for the kill.

While the Funimation english dub's Unit 01 roar ACTUALLY sounds more like a bio-mecha beast with this weird digitized robotic noise mixed in with the normal Japanese version of the roar.

Kudos to Funimation for doing a good job.

You liked the electronic roar but did you think it went well with Unit 01?

Actually in ADV original dub, ADV acquired the footage from the Gainax and it lacked EVA sound effects such as the Unit One growl and they had one of the guys in studio growl and used a few sound effects to make it sound otherworldly. If i recall from the commentary one was called "grumpy flutter". This was because as stated above it was on the wrong audio track.

If you think the sound effects in the unit one berserk scene is bad in either series, play the N64 game, it sounds like an old man is struggling in the bathroom.

Wasn't it because the growl was in the dialogue track and not the sound effects track, which means when ADV did the English dub, they also had to redo the growl.

Well yeah... i do think it suited unit 01. I mean a machine wouldn't roar full stop but a cyborg would roar electronically.

whatever, im overthinking this. I liked the xp rape roar lol

I think you should have specified that it's a 2.0 spoiler.

Personally think the orginal 'bezerk' roar is way more harrowing and organic. The Rebuild one sounds more 'human' which coming from something like the Eva (don't bludge me on semantics here) seems just odd.
