After Rebuild? Pretty much the same as after the original series... an endless tide of merchandising bullshit crahses over the earth and never leaves, and meanwhile we're still sitting around the forums arguing with each other about random shit Anno never even began to think about seriously.

Gendo'sPapa wrote:^ Oh that massive set would cost more than $80 on DVD or $130 on Blu-Ray. That's around the price for just the ADV NGE Platinum set.

Regrettably, as much of a collector I am and as great as that sounds it's almost an impossibility. The rights to Evangelion are so scattered with three or more separate entities owning different areas of the franchise that the idea of a collaborative release is a massive business plan.

Though with ADV bankrupt they'll be up for anything. Like still talking about the Live Action Eva they're going to finance with their broken, non-profit making corporation.

Well, a guy can dream can he?

EDIT: Actually, a new Evangelion series would kick substantial ass too...

Super Robot E with the main plot around Rebuild, Gunbuster, and New Entry Gurren Lagann, with it being introduced after Third Impact time paradox.

What's next in NGE after Rebuild & want do you want next

- NGE, as we all know, is a very popular subject, and most likely going to continue on in some way shape or form as long as there is an audience and money to be made. I, personally, at this point in time, would buy nearly anything NGE related. But my question is, after NGE TV, Death and Rebirth, EOE, and Rebuild, what will come next? What do you want to see come next? Does anybody have any good ideas? ...

*************************************************************

- In my opinion, instead of creating a whole new story, or some run off in a parallel universe, I would really like to see a variety of things combined into one final end product...

1.) Start off with the original NGE TV and EOE, and completely redo the entirety of the animation to catch it up with the present day and time, and add new animation (Such as more interesting battle scenes) due to the general opinion that there was lack of quality in it. But remember to keep the story, dialogue, and the chronological order of events exactly the same... just make it more aesthetically pleasing to the eye.

2.) The second thing that I would like to be done in addition to the first point, would be to expand the series, with a general preservation of tone and character. I know its a big stretch, but for example, stretch NGE TV and EOE into one combined series, that is maybe around 50, 20 to 30 minute episodes long. This would have to be done by the original people like Anno and Sadamoto who created the series however. My opinion is that I want more expansions on the original story... I don't want a separate but similar story because that is why I don't like the Rebuild series as much. I feel as if they abandoned all the parts that made the original NGE great, and made it just some action packed, half-mindless anime rebuild, with only the newer generation, and profit in mind. This is also why I feel that there will never be another anime as great as NGE, because people are too busy trying to make safe, easy to make and understand anime, that are sure to generate revenue without generating controversy. ... I digress... Anyways, possible fillers or more character development in the all of the characters would be great, and maybe a continuation of what would happen after EOE. What do Shinji and Asuka do all alone on that shore??! etc... Just as long as they stay true to the original series. I felt as if parts of the original anime was a bit rushed, and could have easily been stretched out (not unnecessarily), to make for a better end product. And to stay in character with the original show, answer questions from the original series, but end up with more questions at the end... that way you could continually repeat this process until everybody is tired with NGE, which would be in a really long time.

- So if they executed all of the things that I mention above, I would gladly drop at least $200.00, knowing it was really worth it. I mean you have the original series in what you originally loved, only expanded in terms of content in story / character development, and in that of the new and beautiful redone animation, and the added animation in action scenes and what not... So, what do you all think of my idea (Hopefully its somewhat understandable), and what are some ideas of your own? What are your opinions on the new content that is coming out now, such as Rebuild (I will definitely watch it, but so far, I don't like it anywhere near to the original series due to what I stated above), and where do you see the future of the Evangelion subject going (For better/worse?)? What would you like to see next in the wonderful world that is NGE??! How do feel?! What do you think?! ... Give me your input! Please. ... Anyways, thanks you all, and happy discussing.

*************************************************************
Shinji: So where is my dream?
Rei: It is a continuation of reality.
Shinji: But where is my reality?
Rei: It is at the end of your dream.

... Wait, what? ...

I would like to see a Rebuild-quality remastering of the TV series and EoE, but I wouldn't want the actual scenes to be changed at all. Except when correcting the Engrish. (Y'know, change "EMARGENCY" to "EMERGENCY.") I've heard another anime did something similar, maybe it was a Gundam series, so I guess there's precedent for it?

Asides from that, I would like to see some sort of live action adaptation. But it doesn't necessarily need to be a movie. Perhaps an HBO series, if the effects were up to par.

So, spruce up the series? Sounds like it'd be good for a Blu-Ray release.

I'd LOVE to have EOE on BD, but does the original series have that much to offer in high def? It was produced for small, square TV after all. These old shows, made on a budget, can actually look cheaper when given more clarity.

the DVD quality for the platinum thin set is really good, and no complaints on watching it on a 46 in.

It does look fine on big TVs. But I wonder if blowing it up AND adding BD level clarity won't reveal the limited budget in some... unfortunate ways.

That's not true, old anime series benefit a lot from Blu-Rays. Nadia for instance, looks gorgeous. And Evangelion did not have many bad looking episodes, the only ones I can remember off the top of my head were episodes 3 to 5 right in the beginning of the show.
DVD's will eventually go the way of the VHS, so a Blu-Ray release is bound to happen at some point in the future.

There are questions of original cells in order to do a complete remaster to HD, and the film master of the series (which I believe was on 16mm, could be wrong) also has missing chunks. See: http://forum.evageeks.org/thread/7446/Evangelion-Bluray-Re-release/

Obviously, taking the DVD digital master and simply blowing it up to HD would be a waste of time.

Oh please please please. This would be wonderful. Especially if they can get the voice actors to pull off the subtle age difference.

After Rebuild, God willing, Evangelion will finally rest and Hideaki Anno will work on a completely new anime property.

I second Oni's statement. An Evangelion Anima Anime would be quite amazing. Although, hopefully, all the ridiculous fanservice can be put down. The original series was directed at TV-14, for god's sake.

Redicoulus fanservice? How else can we sell this thing? Remember: this is the spinoff that gave us the glasses-wearing loli catgirl Mari. Pretty sure that a screen transition would not exorcise this sort of stuff.

When I say ridiculous fanservice, I mean two girls who appear to be 7 rubbing on each other.

Thank god the mods took down that picture in the Anima section.

I heard that there was fanservice in the manga, but I didn't think that it would be that graphic. It sounds like the RE-TAKE covers would be less revealing.

I don't know if you're referring to my post, but, by "remastering," I meant actually redrawing every single scene.
