Rebuild of Eva 2.0 DVD
Yo, this is my first post here, so I'd like to introduce myself first. I've been an avid Eva fan for 7 years or so. I loved the series and I think the Rebuild is amazing.
Anyways, back to my question. Does anyone know if a date has been announced for a release of the 2.0 DVD?

If you mean the R1 dvd release for 2.0 then yes you are correct. But for those that can import the R2 Japanese 2.0 dvd then i think what you said is incorrect.
Judging from the past and how long 1.0 took to come to dvd, my guess is that 2.0 wont be released on dvd and blu ray in Japan until say between February and May of next year. Days into the release, most hardcore fans would probably get their grubby hands on a dvd rip and fan sub from the web.
But for those that want to get this from a legit source...it all depends on how quickly Funimation brokered the deal with Khara for rights to 2.0. Since Funimation hasnt said a word about 2.0 yet...my guess is that a R1 dvd release for 2.0 wont come until 2011. Yikes!!! I know it sucks doesnt it?

Yea, I'm talking about the R2 Japanese 2.0 DVD. I've got a friend who works for the military in Okinawa and I'd see if she would ship it to me (they get great shipping rates to the US). Though I do admit, I'd also download it as soon as it hit BT even without subs.

Cool. Then you'll probably be able to get this thing by early spring of next year. Turns out that Eva 1.0 was released on dvd in April. But then again the movie saw a later release in September 2007, while Eva 2.0 was released in June.
With any luck we should have a 2.0 R2 dvd by February or March. For those who are optimistic maybe even January. LOL

Funimation has been know to dub movies rather fast (They release DBZ Movies 10 and 11 both in the same year back in 2005). I would say around Q4 2010 when we will see 2.0 here in the USA. I hear that they dub 1.0 back in late 2008 IIRC? I would not be surprise if their working on the movie right now.

If it has the exact same period from theatrical release to DVD the Region 2 release of 2.0 should be mid-February 2010.
As for Region 1, I'm assuming that Funimation entered into negotiations and unless the gods should get angry they own or will own the 2.0 rights pretty soon. And they do dub fast (there was a comment on their website or something about having finished the dub back in late 2008....and they just kinda sat on the film for 11 months...).
All I can say is if I were a key member at Funimation (which I'm not) the best business plan would be to try and get 2.0 out on DVD/BluRay exactly one year after the first release of 1.0, meaning November 2010. They could bring out 1.11 in Spring 2010 and attach a trailer for their Fall release.
And hey, if the God's were really in their favor 3.0 would come out Summer 2010 meaning they could release it November 2011.
....But of course I have no say.

I woun't be surprise if that does happen since most anime movies comeout a year after they come out in Japan (Like the Pokemon movies for example).

Like I said in several other threads, the 1.0 dub has Misato at the end of the Next Time Preview say "You can not advance" is "coming soon", which IMO implies Funi has the rights to it or ALL the Rebuild films, but who knows.
At the very least, my guess is 2.0 will be released on DVD in Japan either Winter (December??)/Spring 2010 and maybe the earliest 2.0 is out in the states or the rest of the world is Fall/Winter 2010. /Speculation

Nothing's certain but I'm just gonna throw this little hypothesis out there.
The Evangelion 2.0 movie homepage which has done nothing since the film's release but shill out crap like Evangelion shoes and calender's has SUDDENLY gone down to be "worked on" and will be (for the most part, some info areas are still accessible) offline from now until December 10th.
Now, like I said, don't get your hopes up but Evangelion 1.0 was released in Sept '07 and had a home video release announcement and set date in Jan. '08. That's about a window of 5 months.
Evangelion 2.0 came out at the end of June and we're now a little over 5 months since the film's release. Hypothetically speaking there should be announcement within the next few weeks about a home video release.
So to me, the only reason I can see them putting their primarily useless website offline for 48 hours is because they've got some kind've big announcement coming.
I only see 3 outcomes.
1. It's a title and release date for Evangelion 3.0 (unlikely since they still have at least 4 home video releases of 2.0 to milk)
2. The Release date of 2.0 on home video- DVD/BluRay/etc is announced. (Highly probable)
3. Nothing happens and I come off looking like a jackass for giving people hope.
Let's see what happens!

Well i have my hopes up. And from you've been telling us with 1.0's previous release date, lol it would make sense for 2.0's dvd release to be sometime in december or early january.
I'm banking my life savings on your prediction here! And by god if the blu ray comes with english subs (which is probably highly unlikely) I will order this ASAP!!!!!!

1.11 blu-ray had no subs just fyi. But that's interesting news there, guess we'll see what happens.
I checked and Eva's offical site does seem down. Also, I don't remember seeing that large text notice there before. Let's hope there's news of a good quality possibly added scenes DVD/Blu-Ray on the way (2.22 or whatever the hell) instead of a somewhat pointless (comparing to R2 1.01's problems) 2.02 release.
