1.0 is kind of sloppy as it is; (see 1.11) No way it had a chance. With luck maybe one of the later films in the series will get a nomination.

If 2.0 even gets dubbed before the entries are over, then again I wouldn't care anyway if 2.0 gets any sort of recognition or not.

Next time.. next time

My votes fer Up!
(Your sig is kinda long. Maybe you could shorten it?)
"Mountain. Heavy are the mountains, something that changes through the ages. Sky. Blue sky. Something visible, something invisible. Sun. Something unique. Water. Something agreeable. Commander Ikari. Flowers. Many of them alike, many of them useless. Sky. Red, red sky. Red color. Red color that I hate. Water flow. Blood. The smell of blood. A woman that does not bleed. Made from the red soil are humans. Made by Man and Woman are humans. Town. Something that humans made. Eva. Something that humans made. Humans are what? Something that God made. Humans are things which humans made. The things I possess are my life and mind. The vessel of a mind. Entry plug, the throne of a soul.

Who is this? This is me. Who am I? What am I? What am I? What am I? What am I?

This is probably just fanboy talk, but Evangelion is too good for Oscars. Let's be honest, between Up and Rebuild, which one would you rather go see?

Another thing is, some films are simply not Oscars material (in a non-derogatory sense) no matter how good they are. I think Evangelion is fundamentally different from other so-called "Oscars contenders" in its esoteric appeal both thematically and culturally, which the hollywood culture is reluctant to embrace. In other words, it just ain't everybody's cup of tea and whether a film is worthy of an Oscar or not hinges a lot on that.

Up. I'd watch Up a THOUSAND times over. Rebuild doesn't have the emotional grip or the roller coaster. With Up, there was a point where I was torn between sharing a character's triumphant moment and crying because of how much shit they had to go through to get there. Rebuild hasn't had a SINGLE moment like that, where I'm feeling two very contradictory emotions at once, and a lot of its truly emotional scenes would work a lot better if I hadn't already seen them happen in the show. That's why 1.0 wouldn't win an Oscar, even if it was eligible.

Even as a diehard Evangelion fan if given the chance to vote between Evangelion 1.0: You Are (Not) Alone, Coraline, or Up- I would go with the later 2 no question.

If it was Evangelion 2.0 I might have to struggle with my fan desires but would probably still go with the later two.

I'm loving the series but I feel the true strength of Rebuild will lie in the film series as a whole. Less as individual films.

Up!, like many of Pixar's works, it pulls at the heartstrings, and speaks quality storytelling all around, what’s more, it's completely original on its own front, not a "remake" in any sense of the word. Had Rebuild shown up in major theaters, I may have gone more than once, just to support it, but I can honestly go to see Up! like that because I want to do so.

Between Rebuild and Up!, I choose the latter, as it stands far better on its own, and I find many things beyond just myself I can relate to. :smokin:

Out of those three I'd choose Coraline.

Ponyo has this category locked down anyway, though Up! and Coraline will be tough competition.

Coraline was one of the best movies of the year IMO.

I'd go with what ThePRPD said. Coraline was just a blast to behold. On the otherhand UP was the suck......way too many lose ends and annoying moments in that movie to have made it enjoyable for me.

The best moments of the film ended during the first 10 min.

Evangelion 1.0? Nope definitely not in the same category. While good.....i think the fanservice and inherent anime-ish, otaku-ish quality of the film just turns people off too much. The reason why Spirited Away and Ponyo are getting wider recognition is because Miyazaki's style of anime story telling is more akin to fine film and more traditional hollywood story telling than say most other anime.
