Seeing the beam hang up slightly on the rafters above, Shinji had to work fast. "Of all the goddamn... hair-brained-" he muttered, taking off his belt, and snatching at the chain of the ceiling-mounted crane just within reach of the catwalk.

"Shinji!" Misato screamed. "Get over here! It's coming down!"

Ikari ignored the woman, however, as the debris crumbling from above blocked the path along the catwalk.

Rei stirred, half-conscious. "W-what?"

"Trust me... you don't want to know..." Shinji answered, wrapping his belt around her midriff, and running it through a link of the chain. "I swear, God, if I live through this, I am NEVER, EVER, climbing so much as a ladder again!" he pleaded.

"I.. don't understa-" Rei started, before Shinji's hand was on her back, guiding her into a running jump, just as the I-beam from above crashed down. Screaming, until her fractured ribs forced her breath short, Ayanami squinted under the pain of the belt dangling her entire weight on her shoulders.

Ikari just kept screaming. "FUUUUUUU*********"

The pair twirled along the length of chain as the length dropped several stories, the crane above simultaneously moving away from the catwalks, and towards the bottom of the cage.

"Shinji!" Misato screamed.

BAM! The pair of Children slammed roughly against the steel plate making up the bottom of Cage Seven, Ikari tumbling away, while Rei simply hung there, until the chain spooled out, letting her collapse to the floor.

Shinji rolled onto his back lazily, his entire body sore. He had survived a head on collision with a car, an N2 device, burning jet fuel, several vehicular collisions with municipal structures, and now a fall several stories up. Somehow, he was not satisfied with his day.

"I-Ikari?" the girl asked.

Shinji blinked, his eyes having trouble focusing as he crawled closer to Ayanami. "You... okay?" he asked. Then, looking over the girl. "...Nevermind..."

A faint echo of a voice from above was shouting at the Children. "Shinji! We're running out of time!" It was that annoying doctor again. "We need you in the Eva now!"

Groaning, Shinji...

A) Outright declines

B) "Okay, okay! I got it! Save the world, and all that s***..."

C) "When this is over, I'm gone, and take the bandage freak with you."

I don't quite know what's going on in C, so B is my final answer.

I would say A, out of hope that he would use his NYC cop attitude to take it down another way...but I doubt that would happen.
