I dont care if its in Jap, As long as it has Subs ill buy it. Heck! I downloaded a camrip for 2.0 from Veoh yesterday, just so I could see it! Even if I couldnt understand what they were saying! I JUST WANTED TO SEE IT! :w00t:

(please excuse my capslock. just trying to emphasizer my point.)

But if I can manage to get a hold of a Japanese or other language of the movie(s) with decent english subs, I'll take it! Not to mention 3.0 and Final come out together!!! :w00t: :w00t:

Sorry if I'm misunderstanding, I thought 1.0 was already out in Germany?

I know it was released in Italy months ago, I thought the German release pre-dated it a bit...?

I wonder if the Italian licensor has already acquired the rights for 2.0...

It may be due to the recession happening in the US,
that's why American distributors are having a hard time.
I see this as one of a few reasons for the delay of an
English dub and sub.

P.S. the recession is pretty much global. While it's felt by companies across the board, it's probably not the determining reason why 2.0 isn't licensed 1 month after it's premiere.

It's a part of an endless string of possibility.

Well, as for the recession part...
in our country, which is my beloved Philippines,
Where our President ate a total of $37,000++ for 2 dinners in the US,
the recession part is not that highly felt.
It may be due to the fact that we are a "developing country" - the sweeter packaging of 3rd world country.
We are accustomed to a hard life...
but as for me, i'm still good.
I'm part of those who can still live a life together with its luxuries.

^Aside from your birthday is anything Eva related supposed to happen Feb 5?

Doubt the recession is the reason. If anything it would lead to a push for a quicker release. The film industry worldwide is doing banging business now that people have less money to go on trips and everything. With less money they're turning to theaters.

Nah, I'd say Funimation is testing the waters with their Eva 1.0 theatrical venue and they're holding out the release to be closer to the holidays.

Concerning 2.0. My hope is 1.0 sells so well in it's first month (As far as anime is concerned) that Funimation immediately agrees to pay whatever insane sum Khara/Gainax is asking for the rights to 2.0. Then they'll push to have the film released for the home market states side one year after 1.0 hit the market in November 2010.

I bet it'd do a heck of a lot better if they'd just immediately release 1.11, since 1.01 is completely inferior and has nothing of any value to offer over 1.11. It's common sense that the DVD is going to sell primarily to people who are already fans of Evangelion, and the fans I've talked to outside of EGF are all waiting for 1.11 before buying.

My question is with the reasonably good success of 2.0 in Japan, will that encourage the DVD release or delay it? (ie prolonged time in theaters)

Answer to all other thread questions: Gendo does it for the dollars. :money:

I would say that it would stay in theatres for longer but once it's out of theatres, they'd probably have enough time to get those dvds out right away.

I get the impression Evangelion 1.0's release in the US being delayed isn't a unique circumstance... for example, do I hear that Ponyo is just hitting US theaters NOW? I saw it in the theater (in old Euro) in April... and I think it had been showing for a while already.

Then again, AFAIK the Ghibli movies whose release was delayed in Europe are mostly those the rights for which were retained by Buena Vista/Disney... probably for commercial reasons?

It would make sense - theoretically at least - that having open channels with chara due to having acquired the rights for 1.0 would enable Funimation to get 2.0 more easily... theoretically.

As for the DVD release in Germany... We don't even have a release date for the Japanese DVD... perhaps the January date refers to the premiere of the theatrical version in Germany in cinemas rather that a DVD release?

Are they doing a special edition DVD like the first film? Hopefully it'll be available for preorder somewhere soon.

If they do a special edition dvd release i would hope that it would come with some decent extras like translated/english subbed interviews from the Japanese dvds or perhaps behind the scenes specials....that is if they even exist.

Does anyone know whether they aired any behind the scenes or making of specials in Japan for both 1.0 or 2.0?

They won't. They'll save that for the 8th release of the films in the 2015 Super Mega Gotta Collect Em' All (Again) Boxset to feature all 3 (or 4) films.

Though it'd be nice to get another strip of film. I have Ritsuko from 1.0 and would love to get something nice from 2.0.

Hey, everyone, some new information has come up. An updated version of the film called Evangelion 2.22 will be released simultaneously on DVD and Blu-ray on May 26 of this year.

Will that be released direct to BD/DVD or will it see a cinema release?
