It's strange, though. I've watched the series and EoE through plenty of times, always picking up on all sorts of new little details and making new connections and such, but I have just... never seen Maggot-Ridden-Asuka-Corpse at any point.

In fact, I was so shocked by that image that I just watched the entire second half of the film through again, assuming that it would appear either when Shinji sees the MP-Evas eating Unit-02 or somewhere throughout the in-Shinji's-mind stuff, but I still couldn't spot it.

... If you don't mind my asking, where is it?

I spotted it first go-around.

There are a few "mindfuck" sequences where they flash a bazillion images really quickly. It is one of those. ^^;
