Question: "who the hell do you think I am?"
Answer: "My name is Mr. Snrub and I come from some place far away....Anyway, I say we invest that money back in the nuclear plant. "
"I like the way Snrub thinks!"

Pre-ordered from Amazon.co.jp, fuck yeah. Just under 75 USD with shipping. Maybe much for one movie, but still not a large sum. I don't have a Blu-ray player though.

This awful grain is still here.

Even if it's a BR, it still doesn't look as good as a saint seiya or fist of the north star ""DVD"". Which is a shame, especially for such a price.

Do you think Funimation will release the movie on Blu Ray here in the USA once the movie comes out on DVD also? I would love to watch the movie on my PS3 and HD TV.

Present tense? There are no samples of the upcoming Blu-ray version. The pictures on the previous page were not from the upcoming Blu-ray version.

They don't have the rights to 1.11. They just have the rights to 1.01.

Not's not something we can be sure about yet (or is it, I dunno.)
They announced the license before Khara announced 1.11, so you never know, FUNimation maybe have actually licensed 1.11 and called it 1.01, all of rebuild, all versions of movie 1, or may be scrambling to license this version if they haven't already (though, depending on the deal, may have to lay off on the Blu-ray version in it's initial release.)

If we don't know by Anime Boston, I'll be sure to ask.

I believe in the director of Eva 1.11.

I thought I read that the blu-ray release was in Japanese with no english subtitles. Anyone know for sure? If so, wouldn't that be annyoing as hell (unless you have memorized what each line transalates into English).

It is Japanese only, because it is the Japanese Blu-Ray, for a Japanese market, only being released in Japan.

Still....there are no real new features. At least nothing nothing informative.

And the final film is only 2 minutes longer? 2 MINUTES.

And I bet those two minutes will be old scenes reanimated. I particularly feel they'd add in some more Touji to make him more likeable. I showed the first film to some friends who'd never seen Eva and they thought Touji was a stupid "Bully" character until I told them the backstory about his kid sister. A single throwaway line by Kensuke does not a justification make.

And seeing how these films are meant to make Eva more "accessible for non-fans" the drastic cut to "Punching Touji" doesn't fulfill those goals.

So my hypothesis: Evangelion 1.11- The Toujier 2 Minute Extended Cut.
"Now guaranteed More Touji!"

They need to reinsert the scene from episode 03 that introduces Toji (with nice crispy animation, of course) -- things just don't work without it. And they need to have Seki redo all his lines. Toji's voice work in 1.0 is cringe-worthy.

My thoughts exactly.

He's robbed of the whole caring brother aspect and instead for those not in the know he's made into an awkward antagonist of sorts.

So you add in Touji's first scene and that's....about 2 minutes.

How many scenes are being added into 1.11, exactly? Is it only Misato driving Shinji back?

Thanks for that link. By the looks of that Rei pic, I think they fixed the darkness issue.

No idea. The first image sample there is also a new cut, though I can't ascribe to any particular scene.

Wow, you said it...

1.01

1.11

(Still some stuff getting gobbled up by darks, but nowhere near as bad.)

Assuming this is what the DVD is going to look like, we've got restored image on the perimeter, too. Which would also make me very happy.

Yes indeed. Judging by those screenshots above, the blu ray does look rather nice. Does this mean then that the Sachiel vs. Unit 01 scene will be clearer and more visible? I hope so! That whole entire sequence in the film was spoiled by too much darkness......

My father taking a look at the film said the animation sucked due to the darkness in that fight scene. With this blu ray coming out soon, I can finally prove him wrong!

Hopefully Funimation also releases a good quality blu ray for Rebuild. We can only hope..... :smirk:
