Anno is rubbing his hands together with glee. Through the all-too-predictable weaknesses of anime fapboys, he will be able to effortlessly finance Khara, and eventually develop a theatrical record that puts Oshii and even the almighty Miyazaki to shame!!!

Are you sure that the "Rei and Friends" thing is fan-made? There actually was a mahjongg video game made which had a bunch of Gainax characters in it.

The original video description translated to that it was made by GAINAX fans, but if you can give me sauce for a mahjong game made with GAINAX characters in it I'll change it so it's right.

The Kodocha video goes at twice the speed it should for some reason, and the Miku video's sound is out of synch - will try sorting that out tommorrow.

Well, I don't know how much of a "sauce" this is, but here is an auction for a copy of the game on eBay (IIRC it was released on Saturn and PS1, and maybe more). The auction description lists it as a "mahjongg" type of game.

I have never played the title, so I have no idea whether or not that video is connected to it or not - you may well be right about it being fan-made. In any event, though, at least you know the game exists.

EDIT: Wasn't the fan-geek commentary attempting to compile a list of Eva merchandise and whatnot? Wonder if this was on there...it probably was.

You were right! It's the opening video from this -

I'll adjust the video description whenever I next log on.

Hah, I had found and "watched" those a while ago! I think I should thank you for buying them and taking the temptation away from me! I very nearly dropped a fortune on the postage (I'm in Ireland, so stuff from the US usually costs a lot).

Be sure to take pictures and share them with us once you get them!

I'm in the UK, the postage was USD$23 Image . You're in luck though, the guy's relisted what would appear to be a second pair of them. I'll get some pictures done as soon as they arrive.

Yes, I've seen them relisted! Damn, those are very tempting! And I was wrong saying they would be expensive, it's actually only about €20 to get them and get them delivered. However, I think I'll wait for you to try them out, then you can give me a recommendation! :p
