Might as well post this here, because this appears to have become our new random spam thread: I recently finished playing Tales of Symphonia, an excellent Japanese role-playing game for Nintendo GameCube, created by Namco Tales Studio. Now this game is absolutely filled with strange side quests, some of which feature amusing pop-culture references, ranging from Pac-Man ice statues to the mandatory "None shall pass!" -moment. Also, it's refreshing to see a story where the main characters deal with their inner demons by physically beating the crap out of them. But anyhow, one supposedly really serious scene made me convulse out of laughter:

In a certain very remote town, two of the main characters accidentally happen to meet their long-lost mother, who years ago abandoned them (by dumping them into a dimensional portal, no less). Although she had her reasons of doing so, regret has haunted her so strongly ever since that she's gone mad because of it. Now that she sees her children again, she doesn't recognize them any longer; she's shut the memory of the abandonment out of her consciousness and fallen into a crazy delusion that everything's perfectly okay. And here's the catch - she's holding a doll which she believes to be her (older) child, and treats her real children like complete strangers!

Athough this plot twist is missing the suicide-factor (their mommy is more a stable kind of loonie), the lines of dialogue spoken during this dramatic encounter immediately reminded me of Evangelion:

"What on earth are you doing, mother? Why are you talking to that doll? WE are your children!"
"Why are you raising your voice like that? You're going to wake up my child."
etc. etc.

Not word to word, but you get the point. I'm not saying this is definately an Evangelion in-joke, but the possibility exists. Also, Rodyle's four-eyed winged dragon gave me certain Nigouki-vibes, but that was most likely just me seeing things (wouldn't be the first time).

But whatever, the greatest thing in this game is that you get a chance to beat up those annoyingly upbeat main characters from Tales of Eternia.

Yes, ToS is a great game.

The ToE characters were boss though.

^Because that would mean mankind's destuction, sad but true. Image
^Also, that needs an EOE one, where everyone is either kill and/or forking each other, or is in puddles of goo.

Y'know, I never could take Gendou seriously after seeing that pic of him singing, now I'm wondering if maybe he's bisexual.

Oh, came across this.

That's what I get worried about. And while we're on the topic, I wonder if SEELE might push him in that direction at all.
