Of all the relationships in the series this one is the most complex. I think it's obvious it's sexual and extremely evident, but what is the extent to which Shinji and Asuka acknowledge it?

I found the end of EoE to be that they both acknowledged it and could finally be happy, after both of them trying to disconnect themselves (comatose scene, scene in the apartment)

I think they both love each other, but they don't have enough common sense to put theirselves out there. (Why's it called common sense when 90% of people don't have it?)

If you listen to Komm susser Tod, the lyrics seem like it's Shinji thinking about Asuka and vice versa, them finally realizing their love.

Therefor, ReTake is the perfect follow-up for EoE.

Re-Take is actually really good and if fleshed out more (no pun intended) it would be good canon material.

The things I liked about EoE and Re-Take were how graphic they were. Not because I only like sex and violence, but the series is extremely graphic within the characters own heads yet it isn't reflected as well on the outside.

Exactly! And I like that you have to actually pay attention and it's not something you just watch and you know what's going on.

Well, according to Wikipedia one interpretation of Asuka's last line in the subbed version is that she feels sick, which is to say she has morning sickness, which is to say she's somehow pregnant, presumably with Shinji's kid.

Shinji - knows that he's shacked up with a faptastic exotic redhead, but only seems interested in the chassis, and only then while the owner is in downtime.

Asuka - Wants to be a real woman, but that involves finding a real man, or at least one who could be considered her peer -- and Shinji comes a distant last in a field of one there. Every time she seems to think "Surely I must have been mistaken, he can't be that useless" Shinji rises to the occasion by being even more useless.

Because it's common in the sense of "ordinary" e.g. "the common cold". In other words, you don't have to be a genius to figure out things that require common sense. It's not common in the sense of "widely held", e.g. "a common belief is....". You were assuming the wrong application of the word common.

A good point. At one point in the EOE "Pre-3I Instrumentality" sequence, Asuka says, "I wonder if I'll be like Misato when I grow up." Considering the hints we are given about Misato's sex life, she's well on her way.
