Really? He said that?

Another reason why Hiroyuki Yamada is the worst director at Gainax.

All of Anno's tendencies to pull away from Gainax have become crystal clear.

Hey now, he directed Wings of Honneamise, and that movie is awesome.

[HY] This is my idea because I felt that people are getting word that Gurren Lagann is a popular series. But when comes down to it, it's no longer on the air anymore. Will this person who has heard something about it, go and buy the entire dvd set to see if the show is good or not? For the creators and the other staff members, they would rather do a prequel or sequel, do something new rather than do something over again. But in order to spread the word of Gurren Lagann to people, a person is more likely to go see a 2 hour movie to find out more about Gurren Lagann than to try to go find all the dvds. As the person behind the planning of the series, it was my idea to create a movie.

Double Damn It! Someone needs to stop Yamaga from implimenting his ideas! I hate clip show movies!

After doing a quick search, I found that apparently Yamaga was responsible for the final episode of Seinfeld.

Directing wise that movie is catastrophal failure

Otherwise it is quite good, especially milieu is awesome

This needed to be quoted. That is all.

Well.... here's the trailer for the first movie.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o6tKDFbB0b8

PERSONAL OPINION:

Underwhelming. It does indeed look to be nothing but a glorified clip show. Maybe I just missed it or maybe the trailer neglects to show it but I saw ZERO animation that didn't come from the TV series. Perhaps this is just a warm up trailer that will later on be followed by a new trailer. Somehow though I doubt it.
This project was announced so quick after the show ended and seems to be hitting theaters so fast I don't expect it to be anything but EVA:Death without the weird narrative experimentation.

This is really disappointing. With the release less than two months away, I would think they could show some examples of in-movie animation. Unless, of course there is none, because it really is a straight up clip show.

More Rei x Kamina action, maybe? haha

This is lame! :explode:

I'm not surprised that movie 1 will be a clips show, but the SECOND movie too?! I was excepting to see Simon as Garlock instead of Starlock this time around, or something equally badass!

Jeez, no WONDER Anno left!

New information about the Gurren-Lagann movie:

-Added focus on Simon and Nia, Lord Genome and Yoko.
-Exactly 50 minutes of newly animated footage.
-Final confrontation of Nia and Lord Genome was re-invented. Very intense.
-Actually, every single new scene with Lord Genome is thriving with intensity.
-The narrative was rewritten to fit into a single delivery rather than the episodic presentation of the TV show. Has a very distinctive flow.

So...any news on the film? I mean it comes out in Japan in what? two weeks. and no new previews that actually show off these '50 minutes' of new animation.

You guys are very lacking in information, this is from Megami Magazine. I'm actually pretty exciting after all this:

-The TV series' second arc(9-15) will be almost an entirely new story.
-Nakashima barely did any screenplay writing for the TV series' second arc so he was happy being able to write a screenplay for the new second arc this time.
-Though Simon's revival in the TV series was carefully drawn with a psychological depiction, in the theater, they will make Simon recover as a result of events from the outside.
-The Yoko VS Adiane hand-to-hand battle will be worth seeing.
-By making her confront Adiane directly, they were able to do a theatrical climax and the drama of Yoko's recovery from Kamina's death at the same time.
-In the movie, Yoko, Nia, and Simon's three dramas will advance simultaneously and will be the peak of the movie.
-You can enjoy Yoko and Adiane's showdown as a sexy catfight too.
-Because animation director Nishigori will be putting in his efforts too, there will be sexy scenes worth seeing
-From around the part where Nia appears, in terms of art, there will be new animation. We want you to see Nia's loveliness.
-Regarding the new parts, starting with Nia, the situations with Yoko and Adiane will change and they are drawn to be even more appealing than in the TV series.
-The number one point of the Gurren Chapter is Simon's revival after losing Kamina.
-In the final battle, there will be Yoko and Nia's drama, and that will converge with the drama of Simon's revival. The situation around them and Simon's recovery will become the theatrical catharsis.
-Kamina will die even quicker than in the TV series, so they were careful with how much of an impact he could make in about two hours.
-Spiral Chapter (Rasen-hen) will open in Spring 2009 and will cover episodes 17-27 and it will be Simon and Nia's story. Spiral Chapter will have newly animated parts too, maybe even more than Gurren Chapter.
-As for developments other than the movies, they want to make Viral's story during the seven years after Lord Genome was defeated.

This all refers to the second movie, right? But yeah, I have to agree; I do find you pretty exciting.

Well, the Gurren Lagann Movie came out in Japan today. So I expect info to start leaking like a sieve from reviews and the like.
