That shouldn't be the case. Since in the admin panel, I see about 6-10 google bots at any given time going through the threads. I was able to get "Rei book" (sans quotes) on the 3rd or 4th page of results.

Between the Ethereal network analyzer and the View Source Chart Firefox extension, I managed to track down my self-inflicted problem.

I had had

[code:1]center iframe {
display: none;
visibility: hidden;
left: 1600px;
}[/code:1]

in my userContent.css file to sweep the porn ads on /u/ out of sight w/o disturbing the impression count -- but this also nuked the search results. Changing this to

[code:1]form>center {
display: none;
visibility: hidden;
left: 1600px;
}[/code:1]

fixes the problem.

Is there any way to make the Google search not include things in signatures? Because as far as I know, if you're trying to look for the source of a particular quote (or even just a word) that ended up in someone's signature, it's pretty much impossible to not spend a long time looking for it.

This is the feedback forum and it's a valid complaint. I don't think anyone was trying to bitch about it. ( I was bitching in the first post, but I was obviously joking. )

I wasn't aware that it would cost so much when I opened the topic. If I had known, I never would have brought it up, because it's not worth the money IMO. At least we have a search function at all.

Reichu recently brought up the topic of threads that are essentially the same topic discussed all over again. Any tips on using Google search more effectively without searching through many pages of results?

And sometimes, you just don't know the exact word of what you're looking for, so that makes it even worse. ;_;

To be honest, even if I try to make searches specific or simple, there are times where I still can't find what I'm looking for.

This site seems helpful from skimming it though, dunno if that'll help: http://webquest.sdsu.edu/Searching/fournets.htm

Rooster: I brought up the point in the Rebuild forum specifically. Since it's relatively new, relevant threads can usually be found just by skimming down the list of topics, which you can get from a link off the search page (although I do my skimming from the forum itself because it's easier to see which threads are junk).

OK. For some reason, the boardtracker phpbb mod isn't working. So I'll temporarily change the link to go directly to boardtracker.

I added an extra link next to the "Search" link to the overall header. This is the old list of threads that gets updated daily that used to be on the old search page.
