I have said it before and I will say it again, Evangelion live is a bad idea. Does anybody remember the Guyver or Fist of the North Star Live action? Those movies were terrible and didn't follow the story lines at all, it's like they didn't have a script and just improvd everything. One word will sum up this movie SUCKS! The anime was great but the live action will blow especially hard. I will watch it simply to make fun of it. I mean come on who are they going to get to play the part of Shinji? PEN-PEN better be in it or I will be pissed.

Couldn't they just use a real penguin? Nothing about Pen-Pen (Minus some of his human like moments) would warrant a CGI character.

Penguins are rather stupid birds, I think it would be very challenging to coax much of a performance out of a real one...

I don't imagine he would have much of a role (Particularly in a 2 to 3 hour movie), just a few shots in the background, perhaps a quick close up. Though a lot these days they just look for an excuse to make something CGI.

K, saw the sketches and such, and I gotta say, im cool with em! OF the pics, I really only have a beef with there horrible costume sketches, ugh. Plus as told plane as day by the guys from WETA, there not even involved any further with the project. Still doesnt really matter, doubt it will get made yadda... yadda... yadda...

Being an industrial design student (concept art essentially) and a big Evangelion fan to boot, I have this to say:

Mechanical Designs =

Environmental Designs =

Plugsuit Designs =

Misato ("Susan"...wtf!) =

Asuka ("Kate"...shoot me now) =

Changing the character names and westernizing them is NOT a smart move. Asuka's face looks horrid, and the proportions of the girls, even though the actresses are real, the characters are not that thick... slim them down WETA. And for the love of God, and all that is holy... KEEP THE ORIGINAL NAMES YOU DIPWADS!

Ramiel looks sorta cool, all "designy", but IT'S NOT BLUE! or shiny...

If the live action EVA was geared towards an american audience like the Final Fantasy movie, then i say that it just might bomb in the box office. i believe someone wrote in this thread that Eva was every Japanese and focused on wanting to belong and accepted, while americans tend to want to be independent. I think that the Japanese aspect of the film may be more appealing to the hardcore EVA fans......i think thats what happened to Hinal Fantasy: The Spirits Within. It was made for an American audience.....

Evangelion live action will be made by Japanese or for americans??

Its something really importat i think because i don't think to the fans of eva in Japan will accept a bad movie and maybe they will respect more of the important aspects of eva...

Apparently WETA is keeping really close tabs on the Eva community's reaction to the movie and has quite the sense of humor:

I have attempted to transcribe it as well as I can, but that little guy has a pretty bad accent. My transcription follows:
