Uh, Doctor Worm & thx, instead of joining the bastardization squad, why not writing your own original scifi-stories? Playing with somebody else's story just prevents you from truly letting loose your own creative powers.
There you go, into the limbo with Doom the Movie and live action Akira.

He was realistic, and admitted that it was possible that the film would never see a release, as it really is just an ambition at this point, and ambition isn't neccessarily everything.

Uh, because writing fan-fiction is fun and it's a great way to practice your writing skills. (if I actualy have any)
I have a couple of original ideas in the back of my head, but I just don't feel I have the skill yet to do the ideas justice. Writing a few fan-fics would be very helpfull for me to get the ball rolling so to speak.

You don´t have the guts to write your own script, but you want to write Eva? Excuse me while i laugh out loud.
Word.
And i hope "Rei Ayanamiare[/u]" is just a mistake of the magazine. Not to mention the fact the sketches are of women, not girls.

They are taking something very precious and toying with it, and for everything they do they will answer to the original fans, mentally atleast, probably not in any substantial way. Taking something doesn't give you ownership of it, especailly since (absolute worst case scenario, I could explain if you'd like) this movie has every chance of completely ruining a whole lot of things. I don't think it would get that far, but it could definetly cause some damage, no matter what happens.
this is their interpretation of a work that was created by someone else. the movie is their's, not the source material. that's not what i'm saying. the LotR movies are their's because they upt the time and energy into making them. the book is not their's, but their interpretation (the movies) is. this goes for eva as well. of course they're going to have to answer to the fans, they did with LotR as well, which Jackson states clearly in the interviews on the extended DVDs. LotR had plenty of chances to ruin everything, but they did an amazing job and i have faith in WETA not to mess up eva either.

I see what you're saying, but still I would never say they lay claim to anything, that would be implying that putting time & money into an idea gives that interpretation some type of power, when really it is more likely to be commercailly bastardized than anything else. I hope WETA won't ruin Eva if they're given the chance, but when it comes to the Lord of the Rings there was a huge fanbase ready to gut them, but more importantly it was just a book, since everyone interprets what a book looks like differently, there's more openness. With something that is already in visual form, and something that doesn't seem to have that many people ready to burn down movie theaters if they screw everything up, I don't think there's as much motive to give a damn about the real thing, and just go off into their own Eva inspired whatever. 'Course I think before the LotR movies came out there was a lot of speculation of doom, which I don't think materialized as much as prophosized. If this movie ever did get made we'd just have to wait and find out.

To the LOTR fans like me, that see the movies as what they actually are (underwritten, flashy, shameful waste of time), you´re wrong.

I always love it when folks present their opinion as irrefutable dogma.

In order to have a HOT character, you have to have a HOT actress. And who better than Pamela Anderson (aka: Boob Girl!)! Of course the make up people would have to make her albino, cut her hair, make her look 14 AND dye her hair blue! But.....that would be HARD to do.

they most likely will. the main characters should be little known actors that use this movie as their big break, like viggo did with LotR. they may big one or two big names in the film, but only as supporting characters. plus it would make more financial sense to hire unknowns so they can get away with paying them less.

The more and more I hear about this project, the further and further behind it seems to be. I remember reading about the Lord of the Rings being made into a movie back when I was in elementary school. That was some eight years ago. Then there was a stretch of time where absolutely nothing new came out, to the point where I thought the project had failed. It was not till years later that I saw stuff about it again that reaffirmed that it still existed.
ADV made a bad decision in my opinion, by announcing a project so far in advance. Matt Greenfield even stated that the movie(s) may never be made. The movie has no director, and most likely hasn't been greenlighted. All it has is Gainax's consent, a script that has little to no bearing on the outcome of the film, and an agreement with WETA that if the film does become a reality, that they will be the ones doing the production work.
If I were at the head of a project like Live Action Evangelion, which could arguably one of the most groundbreaking events in film history, I would at least wait till it solidified. I would at least wait till a final script, director, producer, production studio, and greenlighting were all in line. Cause now we have rumors and conjecture running rampant on a topic that has very little if any material substance to it.

So I bet the people who haven't read any of the books, but became obsessed with LOTR after seeing the movies just make you cringe. People like.....me^-^. Mwaha.
Although I AM about to read the books now that the movies are done.
Ah, would that I were a blossoming little 14-year-old again. I would die to play Asuka, even if the movie sucked. It'd just be so much fun. I look young, but being 21, I don't think even I could pull off a 14-year-old. Dangit.
