On what grounds are you so assured? What makes Rei's name any more imporant than Shinji's or Asuka's? Because she has more posters? Rei is too integral a character to be allowed arbitrary throwback preservation. That's what localizing is; why would Katsushiro be in The Magnificent Seven?

That's quite an appropriate name actually.

Why not change Rei. Because it doesn't sound nearly as weird to Americans as other Japanese names.

Strange doesn't exist. And anyway, I don't see how Shinji should seem so odd to a culture which has so many Benji's.

I had a weird thought the other day - slice it the right way, and you could look at NGE/EoE as an alternate "Taming of the Shrew" - which would make the choice of Kate Rose as a name entirely fitting.

I will totally flip if they changed Rei. Sure, stuff like Fuyutsuki is hard to pronounce, but Rei....no matter how you look at it, Rei is NOT hard for Americans to pronounce.

Maybe the fact that I'm a Rei fanatic has to do with it...meh.

Rei is an American name too..I have seen it in a lot of movies..So why change it?

Well, the USAn VAs for Noir managed to mispronounce it when it was in the middle of "Mireille" (It should be like Rei, as in mi-Rei-uh)

Maybe that's why the concept images of the woman in a white plugsuit are labelled "Ray".
