They aired episode one and two, it was during their 4:00 to 7:00 shedule I believe. I was rather pissed when Nadesico came on instead after the third day, but then I watched Nadesico, and I wasn't so mad anymore. ^^

Yeah, Cartoon network did show the first two episodes of Eva on cartoon network. At the time, I had just finished Eva for the first time, and was really excited that cartoon network was going to run the show.

I hadn't really heard about "giant Robot week" so I thought they where just showing the whole series.
I was thinking "wait till all those Dragon Ball Z kiddies see this!"
And then I was thinking "Hold on! How badly censored is this going to be?"
And then I decided. " Oh, heck, it will be funny to watc in on CN even if it IS censored."

I was wrong.

Episode one was pretty much intact, minus any and all signs od blood, but Shinji's head trauma was apparent and everything seemed okay.
Then came Episode 2...
Let's see...Apparently Misato is just overly energetic, because she didn't drink any beer, nor was there any in her fridge...CUT

Pen Pen doesn't seem to exist...His entire entrance was CUT.
Misato takes baths in a one piece bathing suit...

The whole thing was barely fifteen minutes! They filled in the missing time with a Gigantor Short!

ABC would never show it on it's regular broadcast channel, if they did they would get fines up the ass. If it is not all talk (which I think it is) it would probably get put on one of their sister cable channels where there are less restrictions.

ABC currently has no plans to air Evangelion, or any anime series not geared directly toward children. It was a wishful statement, but I believe something of a prophetic one.

I remember like it was yesterday, or to be exact, 28 days ago! I just descovered it, so the nostalgia is so thick that it's literaly palpable!

Hehe I rememeber when I first saw Eva with friends and the day after the theme got stuck in my head and i couldn't get it out for WEEKS.
