Re: News [NO POLITICS]
I wouldn't be too cockahoop about this:
Vulnerable is still vulnerable.
The official status of the much-loved animal has been changed from "endangered" to "vulnerable"
...
But the rebound could be short-lived, the IUCN warned. Climate change is predicted to wipe out more than one-third of the panda's bamboo habitat in the next 80 years. "And thus panda population is projected to decline, reversing the gains made during the last two decades," the report said.
Vulnerable is still vulnerable.

Australia's rudest places mapped
When the most innocent of weird names in Tasmania is "Penguin"...some names make you wonder whether it was (or will be) a gay paradise at a certain point - Grassy Bottom, Funny Knob Creek, Guys Dirty Hole, Bottom Hole, Secret Hole all close to each other. I also like how Bust-me-gut Hill and Break-me-neck Hill are right next to each other.
Hmmm, and NSW has Kinki Cemetery, Booti Booti, and Yes, I know Rock.

The conversation pertaining to the SpaceX explosion was getting pretty political, so I moved it all to the SPAAAAAAAACE thread. post/844085/SPAAAAAAAACE-why-we-should-not-go-there/#844085

Considering that Australia was once a penal colony, it makes sense.

Re: News [NO POLITICS]
Among the people who use the Internet, many are obtuse. Because they are locked in their rooms, they hang on to that vision which is spreading across the world. But this does not go beyond mere ‘data’. Data without analysis [thinking], which makes you think that you know everything. This complacency is nothing but a trap. Moreover, the sense of values that counters this notion is paralyzed by it.

Three days ago it was the Moon Festival in China, and where Chinese congregate elsewhere; MoonCakes are traditional at this time.
But for some it was not so good.

^So, alcohol that doesn't dehydrate you? Sounds like they mixed water in it (same effect at least).

^ Sounds more like they came up with something that stimulates the proper body responses without having the side-effects of real alcohol. Although this bit makes me wonder:
Synthesized version of the active substance of a psychotropic mushroom, poison, or similar?
Professor Nutt, [...], said he was unsure if the use of synthetic alcohol would be restricted by the new Psychoactive Substances Act, which came into force in May.
