If it's really about trying to keep the same T rating that SF has always had as the video discusses, I think it's fair. But given everything else shown in the video I find it funny that a low angle and a closeup on a butt-slap are what pushes it over the line.

Seems more like they were aiming for a particular breadth of market and felt they went a bit too far and needed to course-correct. Yeah it's about not making certain people uncomfortable but I think it's because they want kids to play and don't want their parents getting mad.

Sounds about right. You don't need SJWs to explain this: it's all about making money, and ass slaps and blatant crotch shots will have parents saying "no" double quick. So you do what you have to to keep the parents happy, because the spice must flow.

C'mon, Rose; do you think puritanical parents care about that? Again, it's all about making money. Doesn't matter if the reasoning is sound, if it means the title's more likely to make money you do it.

(I say this as someone who prefers the unedited versions of both scenes, btw; I like my fanservice as much as anyone, and SF is pretty good about dishing it out with the guys as well as the girls, so I'm mostly okay with it.)

Uh, have you met the "think of the children!" crowd? I don't know about Japan, but in the U.S. parents are much more okay with copious amounts of violence than they are with even the tiniest bit of sexuality. This is exactly the sort of thing that's meant to appease them.

I've seen no mention of internet campaigns complaining about the contents of the game or anything of the sort, seems plausible that Capcom decided to do it for their own reasons and not because of external pressure. Getting an ESRB rating of mature instead of teen can make a difference, and Street Fighter has always been rated teen. Maybe they thought they were leaning a bit too close to stuff like Dead or Alive, which routinely gets mature ratings.

Wow, apparently it's "kawaii or bust" in Japan. Anyway, it appears that the face change is a thing unique to the alternate costume, the original face seems to still be in the game.
