I was curious as well as to what was happening, but I didn't feel a pressing need to bring it up. I just went, "Eh. New boxes." Tankred is correct in this instance: I'm one of the people responsible for checking the twitters and other news outlets, as well as making the news posts that appear on the front page.

If we're giving out random colors, I want some that alternate between this shade of green and this shade of magenta, so that everyone who looks at my posts gets really sore eyeballs.

I want that purple, damn it. I rather dislike green.

As long as we're commenting on our perks, I did find the purple to be a bit hard on my eyes this morning; however, throughout the day, it's quite grown on me. At this point, before I head off to bed, I think it's pretty nice. (And it makes me unique!)

Pink boxes used to refer to the Minions, who were non-staff (non-mods, non-admins) who had other duties and backstage access. pwhodges was given blue boxes to denote a separate role, that of "adviser", where he had backstage access but no other duties. When it became commonplace for staff to step down but retain backstage access and have no other duties, we started giving them pink boxes because in our heads "Minion" status was what we usually called it when you had backstage access but were non-staff. Because we kept turning people into "Minions" who had no actual job, the name was changed to Committeeman, and the notion of having some task or duty stripped from it -- along with the distinction in meaning between the pink and blue boxes. (Allegedly; I would say there is quite a distinction between a retired staff member who retains certain privileges but no obligations, and an adviser who would be expected to advise.)

That's the story as best I've been able to put together, at least. :headscratch:

A funny thing happened where Nuke wound up with pink boxes despite not being Committee. So now we're sorting out what roles should get what boxes.

Whoooooow, so there is a logic behind the colouring-scheme. I always thought that those colours get assigned randomly, haha.

Well, I should have spoken up about this earlier. I gave Nuke those pink boxes as a "thank you" for stepping up and helping with the news feed. That didn't matter very much when all the moderators and administrators retained their posts and relatively senior Committee members (Wayneiac and Dr. Nick) were occasionally posting.

But with so many mods/admins stepping down and getting Committee status the pink boxes looked inappropriate, since Nuke has no backstage access privileges. Rather than have Nuke revert to white boxes, I gave him boxes of a new color while we're working out the pink/blue distinction.

Oh puh-lease, not a flame war amongst Mods about what colour suits them best! Before we know it, someone will make an argument about red boxes signifying a communist conspiracy against the liberal society and pink boxes being offensive to heteronormative people.

And then everything will go to hell.

Feeling like a broken, redundant wheel and hoping to spare myself the pain of future backstage drama, I've completed my regression into a regular forum user. So whatever the staff do from this point forward, don't blame me, as I had absolutely nothing to do with it.
