I would add Mawaru Penguindrum to that list if you have not seen it already. There really aren't other series like it and it's one of my all-time favorites.

Kyousogiga [...] is fun too; although it might be a little bit confusing at times. It reminded me a lot of FLCL.

I don't really see the FLCL comparison that comes up. It's a good show, though, and it's another one like Uchouten Kazoku that uses real Kyoto scenes as backgrounds.

That's the effect of starting it with episode 0, I too saw similarities with FLCL there but they fade away quickly once the show starts going.

But yeah, as has been mentioned, Kyousougiga and Uchouten Kazoku are some of the best series that aired recently. In addition to that, and if you haven't watched it yet, I recommend Patlabor, the Early Days OVA is a short but worthwhile experience that will introduce you to the setting and characters before you can get to the peak of the franchise, movies 1 and 2.

Actually, I think Uchouten got an award for best anime of the year in some category, I think it was comedy, it was posted somewhere around here. Kyousougiga though, as far as I can tell, didn't get much praise, which I think is sad.

Well, if you're to watch Texhnolyze and Lain, you should complete the set with Haibane Renmei. Some people see them as a trilogy about body, mind, and soul.

I'm thinking about watching Kare Kano as well, and my brother recommended a show called Mushishi. His words were that it's a "nice and chill" one. Is it any good, though?

Haibane Renmei is a lot more light-hearted than SEL or Texhnolyze, but it's still pretty deep, particularly in later episodes.

Kare Kano is a curate's egg. It's Anno, so there's that; but there's a part that isn't, and the whole thing is essentially unfinished because of disagreement with the writer of the manga (and the common fact that the manga was still being written). You really should watch it sometime, but don't put other things aside for it.

Mushishi is lovely; slow and thoughtful. In this it is often compared with Kino's Journey, which seems to have that bit more to it which is why it was the one I listed. There is a second season of Mushishi airing at present which I haven't yet looked at, but I've heard good things about.

So can anybody recommend me another mecha series after finishing "Mobile G Gundam Fighter"? Not necessarily Gundam but another mecha series with maybe a love story baked into it. I didn't go into Mobile G Gundam expecting to be getting all misty-eyed over Domon Kasshu and Rain's relationship. If its any consolation, I CAME for the action

Full disclosure: I've seen "Escaflowne" already (liked it a lot, especially the magical fantasy setting) and the only other Gundam related thing I've finished was the compilation movie of Gundam 0079

So its kinda like death note in that it starts off great but goes down hill really fast and sucks really bad towards the end

The Manga has an alternate ending where Light succeeds in beating L and Near. But after thirty oh so years of being a vengeful god, he eventually tired of being a monster, commits suicide by writing his name in the note. He is sent to Mu where he is damned to live out every death he inflicted on others with the note until he eventually fades away into nothing. However, he manages to find a loophole and its implied he becomes a Shinigami like Ryuk.

Is getting into this http://myanimelist.net/anime/2685/Tsuba ... evelations and its sequel OVA without the TV series okay to do, or would it be seriously confusing? I've heard of Tsubasa, but don't have the time right now to commit myself to the 2 26-episode TV series or the 28 Volume/223 chapters manga.

Gotta finish CCS first (and finally watch Rayearth 2* and X: The Movie), but I've heard of Tsubasa years ago and it sounds interesting.

*Speaking of, the Rayearth OVA is an alternate take but a good take to check out, right?

Tsubasa is Clamp's own multiversal crossover fanfic of their previous works, and is generally taken as the point they jumped the shark. It's the series in which a Sakura Kinomoto dies in a car crash -- I say a Sakura, as there's more than one version of each of the CCS characters, all tangled up in some weird causal loop.

The Rayearth OVA takes the broad outline of the plot, the names and some of the props, but moves the action to being magical super-robot vs kaiju in Tokyo. It was mostly harmless.

I won't start reading X, until they finally finish it (which I doubt will happen before 2020 if at all), but for me the only interesting/good read I had with Clamp was xxxholic.

I would say that it's seriously confusing without having read both the Tsubasa manga and the xxxHolic manga (the xxxHolic anime doesn't carry the Tsubasa connection for some reason, so everything important to the manga's story is in the xxxHolic manga. As for the Tsubasa anime, it's not entirely true-to-text so using it as a bridge to Tokyo Revelations can be difficult). You may also want to finish Cardcaptor Sakura if you haven't already, if only to learn who the characters roughly are.

I've followed by Tsubasa and xxxHolic avidly for years, but it's still a very confusing read involving parallel dimensions, time travel, magic, etc. (and that's only the first few chapters). You can try leaping into Tokyo Revelations immediately if you want, but you're probably not going to have any idea what's going on, so I wouldn't recommend it.
